Uploading a PDF, a theme or an ebook to the media library and sharing the URL usually ends the same way: the link circulates uncontrolled, anyone downloads without leaving a trace and you don't know which file really attracts interest. WordPress Download Manager Pro is built for people who live off their files (documentation, software, music, member material) and need to decide who downloads what, when and in exchange for what.
Protect, capture and measure every download with WordPress Download Manager Pro
Files can be uploaded to a private directory, picked from the media library or served from Amazon S3, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, which saves server bandwidth. Download buttons are inserted with shortcodes or Gutenberg blocks.
- Protection: password, CAPTCHA, IP blocking, hotlink prevention, encrypted URLs and download limits.
- Role-based access: restrict by user role, membership level or specific users, useful for members-only content.
- Lead capture: ask for an email before downloading (with a verification link) and connect it to Mailchimp, ConvertKit or ActiveCampaign. Sign-in with Google, Facebook or LinkedIn is also possible.
- Analytics: logs the user (if logged in), IP, date, browser, country and referring page, with reports and data export.
Selling without WooCommerce: cart, gateways and licenses
The plugin includes its own selling system: a cart, PayPal, Stripe and more than 20 payment gateways, order management, invoices and automatic file delivery. For software, it generates and manages license keys, with expiration and activation control.

Is a download catalog enough, or do you need a full store?
It's a good choice if your catalog is digital files. If you also sell physical products, with shipping, stock and taxes by region, a general-purpose store makes more sense; this plugin focuses on downloadable items. Also, some of the more advanced features (certain integrations, cloud storage or marketing tools) are offered through add-ons, so check in the demo what is included in your version.
Do I need WooCommerce to sell?
No. It includes its own cart, gateways and order management.
Can I stop people from sharing the download link?
URLs are generated dynamically and encrypted, and are combined with a password, CAPTCHA, IP blocking or logged-in-only access. No measure prevents someone from sharing the file once downloaded.
Does it work for large files?
Yes, by serving them from cloud storage such as S3, Google Drive or Dropbox instead of loading your hosting.
Can I know who downloaded a file?
Yes, through the log of each download and the dashboard reports. If you handle personal data from European users, review your privacy obligations.
