About WP Cloud Plugins - Google Drive (Use-your-Drive)
Whoever updates the file should not need to log in to WordPress
The catalog changes, someone saves it in the team Google Drive folder, and then you have to ask whoever runs the website to download it, upload it and replace the link. Meanwhile, the page keeps offering the old version.
Use-your-Drive removes that step. It shows Google Drive folders on WordPress pages, and the files stay in Drive. The website stops being a second storeroom that has to be kept up to date, and the person publishing becomes whoever already works in the folder. If a photo is added to or removed from a gallery folder in Drive, the gallery changes with it.
Modules that turn a folder into part of the site
- File browser: grid or list view, folder navigation, search and drag-and-drop uploads.
- Photo gallery built from a folder, and a responsive image carousel.
- Upload box: files go straight from the visitor to Drive, bypassing server upload limits.
- Audio and video player: automatic playlists, playback speed and captions.
- Lists, buttons and embedded documents: compact lists, download buttons and previews of Docs, Sheets, Slides or PDF.
- WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads: serve digital downloads from Drive, and in WooCommerce the customer can upload documents to an order folder.
- Forms: Gravity Forms, Fluent Forms, Formidable Forms, Contact Form 7, Ninja Forms and WPForms, among others.
Modules are configured with a shortcode builder, with no code, and there are integrations for Gutenberg, Elementor and WPBakery.
A folder for each person, and permissions by role
With personal folders, each logged-in user reaches their own private area from the same module and the same page, so each client has a space without creating a page per person.
- Manual or automatic assignment of folders at sign-up, with several folders for one user and a guest user for people without an account.
- Per-module permissions: who can view, download, upload, rename or delete, by user or by role.
- Extra access layers: password-protected folders or required login.
- Activity log: reports and email notifications for previews, downloads, uploads and deletions.
Drive stays the storeroom: no copies, no sync
It does not copy files to your server or sync them: Drive is the live source. That means whatever is deleted or reorganized in the folder affects the site, so it is worth deciding who can touch it.
Its features do not include site backups, and it only works with Google Drive: there are sibling plugins for other clouds.
Which Google account you need and how to connect it
It needs WordPress 5.8 or higher and PHP with the cURL extension enabled. You need a Google account, personal or Google Workspace; Shared Drives require Workspace. On education accounts, confirm with the admin that third-party OAuth apps are allowed. Several accounts can be connected, and each module can point to a different one.
Setup:
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Connect your Google account from its settings.
- Create a module with the builder and choose the root folder.
- Set which roles can view, download or upload.
- Test the module with an unprivileged user before publishing.
If your files live in another cloud or in the media library
The same maker offers Share-one-Drive for OneDrive and SharePoint, and Out-of-the-Box for Dropbox, with the same core and WordPress integrations. If what you want is to use those folders inside the media library, WP Media Folder Cloud Addon offers two-way sync with Google Drive, which is a different approach.
Drive in WordPress: storage, accounts and limits
Do the files take up space on my hosting?
No copies are kept on the server. Files stay in Drive. WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads sales are delivered through your server after purchase.
Does it work with a free Gmail account?
Yes, personal Gmail accounts and Google Workspace accounts both work. Shared Drives require Workspace.
Does it search inside documents?
Yes. Search finds files by name and extension, and can also search their contents.
Is there an upload size limit?
The plugin sets none of its own: uploads are sent in chunks directly to Drive, without passing through the server.
