About WP Offload Media Pro Plugin
When a WordPress site grows, images, videos and downloadable files eat up server disk space, and every visit forces that same server to hand out photos and stylesheets on top of generating the page. The result is slow pages just when you have the most traffic. WP Offload Media Pro Plugin moves that load to cloud storage and serves it from a CDN.
Your server stops acting as a warehouse
What almost nobody mentions when building a content-heavy site is that the WordPress server is usually the most expensive and least suitable place to keep heavy files. This plugin copies your media library to an object storage service (Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces or Google Cloud Storage) and rewrites the URLs so files arrive from a CDN such as Amazon CloudFront. That way, the server is left for the work it is meant to do.
What it solves depending on who you are
You have a huge library and the disk is filling up
You can turn on a setting that removes local files from the server as soon as they are uploaded to the cloud, or use the bulk tool to clean up those that were already uploaded. If you prefer to keep a local copy, just leave that option off.
You work with several servers or environments
If you set up a load-balanced site, the classic problem is that an upload lands on one server and the others can't see it. With media in the cloud, they all read from the same place. The same goes for development environments: you configure each one with the same settings and they share the same bucket, with no folder syncing.
You sell downloads or protect members-only content
With WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads, product files are uploaded to the cloud and delivered to the customer after purchase. For videos in a members area, some files can stay private and others public using Amazon CloudFront or Google Cloud CDN.
Features that change your day-to-day
- Guided setup: you provide the access keys and the plugin can create the bucket, or you pick one you already have.
- Background upload of existing files: you can close the tab, follow progress from the settings, and pause and resume.
- Management from the media library: bulk selection to upload to the cloud, remove from it or bring back to the server, without entering your provider's dashboard.
- Backups and versions: if you enable versioning with your provider, deleted files can be restored.
Beyond images: CSS, JavaScript and fonts
The plugin can also serve asset files (CSS, JavaScript and fonts) from the CDN, in just a few steps. It works with any CDN; those with guides include CloudFront, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean, Cloudflare, KeyCDN and Stackpath. There are also guides for S3-compatible providers such as Wasabi and Min.io.
It has official integration with Advanced Custom Fields, WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, Elementor, Divi Builder, WPML, EWWW Image Optimizer, Enable Media Replace and MetaSlider, among others.
It needs your own account with a cloud provider
The plugin does not include storage or a CDN: you have to sign up for your own object storage service and, if you want to serve from a CDN, set it up separately following the guides. That means managing access keys and your provider's costs. It will improve how media and assets load, but it does not replace good hosting, page caching or lightweight code.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use CloudFront?
No. It works with any CDN. CloudFront is the option most tightly integrated with S3, especially if you serve private files.
Can I upload what I already have in the library?
Yes, with one click and in the background, with the option to pause and resume.
Do I lose my files if I remove the plugin or change provider?
You can download the media back to the server with a button before taking that step, and the plugin includes tools to move files between providers.
