About WP Search with Algolia Pro
Your visitors search, find nothing and assume you don't have it
If your site stores bedrooms, area, specialty or part numbers in custom fields, people who search for them get nothing and leave convinced they don't exist. WP Search with Algolia Pro extends the free WP Search with Algolia plugin to send that data to Algolia and show results as the person types.
There is a second trap: a search that receives no usage data performs on day 400 exactly as it did on day one. That is where this plugin shines: it sends click and purchase events to Algolia so its AI features (semantic search, re-ranking based on what people click and buy, personalization and recommendations) have something to work with.
Custom fields as filters, with drag and drop
The Meta Field Mapper detects fields from Advanced Custom Fields, Meta Box, CMB2 and native WordPress meta. You drag a field into searchable attributes to make it searchable, or into attributes for faceting to turn it into a filter. Field order decides how much each one weighs in relevance, and configuration is separate for each content type. Anything you already customized with the algolia_post_shared_attributes hook keeps working and is not overwritten.
This is what lets you offer bedrooms and neighborhood on a real estate site, salary range and remote work on a job board, specialty and region in a directory, or material and warranty in a store. And the person who knows the content can do it without waiting for a developer.
WooCommerce store: what gets indexed and what stays out
It indexes simple and variable products with SKU, short description, price (with minimum and maximum on variable ones), weight, dimensions, sales and ratings. You can remove sold-out products so search doesn't offer what nobody can buy, skip hidden or catalog-only products, and adjust typo tolerance on SKUs, because fuzzy matching on part numbers only adds noise. Autocomplete and InstantSearch can be limited to products for a store-only search.
It also records add to cart, remove from cart, begin checkout and completed orders, the latter as conversion events. That way you can attribute revenue to specific queries instead of guessing from click-through rates.
Multisite: a single index for the whole network
One centralized index gathers content from the sites you choose, and you can exclude subsites from the admin with no code. There is an indexing status column in the site list and a configurable AJAX timeout for large networks. However, all sites must be in the same multisite installation: it does not work with several networks or with a network combined with standalone installs.
It needs an Algolia account and the free base plugin
It is an add-on, not a standalone plugin. Here is how the work is split:
- Already solved: custom field indexing, WooCommerce products, multisite index, event tracking, per-content exclusion, consistency with the noindex settings of Yoast SEO, All in One SEO, Rank Math SEO, SEOPress and The SEO Framework, and index diagnostics.
- You provide: an Algolia account (it has a free tier for small, non-commercial projects) and the WP Search with Algolia plugin installed.
- With a professional: custom filters, facets and sorting on your results template, or advanced data integrations.
- With patience: AI improvement depends on real usage data arriving, so you won't see it on the first day.
Common questions about WP Search with Algolia Pro
Does it work without the free plugin?
No. It is an add-on to the WP Search with Algolia plugin and also requires an Algolia account.
How do I find out why an article doesn't show up in search?
The edit screen shows whether that content is in the index and has a button to re-index it. The index health page also shows the status of your credentials and which indices actually exist on Algolia.
Can I keep certain content from being indexed?
Yes. You can exclude specific content with an option of its own that doesn't depend on any SEO plugin, or mirror the noindex settings you already have.
Does it index posts, pages, taxonomies and users?
The free base plugin already does that. Pro adds the rest: WooCommerce, multisite, no-code custom fields and event tracking.
