About WPC Product Quantity for WooCommerce

When the "+" button only adds one at a time

You sell T-shirts for couples, fabric by the metre or boxes that only come in fives, but the WooCommerce quantity field accepts any whole number. The result is orders for a single sneaker, customers who click dozens of times to reach 50 units and carts that don't match how you really sell.

Quantity is not a neutral figure: it is a business rule. WPC Product Quantity for WooCommerce lets you write that rule into your store: minimum, maximum, starting value and the jump between options.

Minimums, steps and decimals in WPC Product Quantity

These are the pieces the rule is built from:

  • Minimum and maximum: they set what can be added to the cart and purchased. A maximum also limits what each customer buys.
  • Default value: the quantity already filled in on the field.
  • Step: with a step of 5 the customer goes 5, 10, 15, 20… With a minimum of 2 and a step of 2 you sell in pairs even though the price shown is for one unit. With 3 and 3 you force purchases in threes.
  • Decimals: they let you sell 0.5 litres, 2.5 metres or 4.5 kilos, something WooCommerce doesn't allow out of the box. Decimal steps such as 0.25, 0.5 or 0.75 also work.
  • Three selectors: the default field, a dropdown or radio buttons.

It is worth knowing the limits from the start. Predefined values and number ranges only work with the dropdown or radio buttons. Decimal steps require enabling decimal units in the settings first. And the plugin controls quantities, not prices: to build packs, combos or discounted offers you need to combine it with another WPClever plugin, such as WPC Product Bundles, WPC Frequently Bought Together or WPC Composite Products.

Global, per-product and per-variation rules

Rules can be defined at three levels: global (for the whole store or for several products, by source and user role), per product (non-variable ones) and per variation (variable ones). Anything that matches no rule uses the default settings tab.

Global rules are read from top to bottom and the first match is applied. If a product falls under several, the priority order decides: variation, product, global and default. Global rules and individual rules per product or variation are premium features.

Common questions before installing WPC Product Quantity

Can I sell by the metre or by the kilo?

Yes, as long as you enable decimal quantities in the settings. After that you can use steps such as 0.25 or 0.5.

Can I limit each customer to one unit in a flash sale?

Yes, with a maximum of 1. If the sale runs on a schedule, you can combine it with WPC Product Timer for WooCommerce.

Does it work with my theme and with multilingual sites?

It is compatible with any WordPress theme, with WooCommerce and with the WPC plugins, and with WPML.

Can I set different rules depending on the user role?

Yes, through global rules, which are part of the premium version.

Enable decimals first, then fine-tune the steps

The order of work matters. Start with the general settings: if you sell fractions, enable decimal units there before touching anything else. Then define minimum, maximum, default value and step, and only then add exceptions.

If you build a pack with several items, choose the selector according to the number of options: with few, dropdown or radio; with more than three, the dropdown saves space; with large quantities, the default field with a reasonable step. Leave the maximum blank if you want available stock to rule. And always test the cart with a variable product and a simple one: the variation rule overrides the product rule.
