About WPForms Zapier Addon
The form offers only one signal, and the rest is decided in Zapier
You want every request that arrives through a form to open a task, notify your team and save a contact. You have three tools and none knows about the others, so someone copies the data by hand, one by one.
WPForms offers Zapier only one trigger, the new entry, so everything that happens afterward is decided in Zapier and the form must already ask for every piece of data those actions will need.
The WPForms Zapier addon connects your WordPress forms with external apps through Zapier. You set up a zap once, and each submission sends its data to the app you choose. It does not require coding, and there is no limit on the number of forms you can automate.
What it connects and with which data
- A single trigger: New Form Entry, which fires every time someone submits the chosen form.
- Actions of your choice: whatever Zapier offers. Examples include an SMS with Twilio, an invoice in FreshBooks, a contact in Google Contacts, a task in Trello or Asana, or a Slack alert.
- Entry data: Zapier guides you in assigning each form field to a field in the destination app. The steps vary by app.
- User journey: with the User Journey addon and this one up to date, triggers include an Entry User Journey field.
You can start with a free Zapier account. Some apps do require a paid Zapier plan, which is decided in that tool and not in WPForms.
An SMS when a contact form is submitted
A request form collects name, email and phone. In Zapier, the zap uses WPForms as the trigger and Twilio as the action, and the phone number from the entry is assigned to the SMS recipient. Since WPForms delivers what the form collected, if the form has no phone field there is no number to assign.
This is one way to set it up among others; choose what suits you.
Conditions for the zap to work
You need WPForms Pro with the Zapier addon installed and active, and a site with HTTPS and a valid SSL certificate, because Zapier requires a secure connection. The trigger test only works if the form already has at least one entry.
If you would rather WordPress not store entries, you can turn on the Disable storing entry information in WordPress option in the form settings. Decide carefully, because from then on the data lives only in the destination you connected.
Among its functions there are no triggers other than the new entry. If you want to react to another WPForms event, you will need another mechanism.
Connecting a form in six steps
- Install and activate WPForms Pro and the Zapier addon.
- Open WPForms, Settings, Integrations tab, and expand Zapier to see your site's API key.
- In Zapier, create a zap and choose WPForms as the trigger, with the New Form Entry event.
- Sign in with the API key and the full address of your site, with the trailing slash. On a multisite, enter the subsite path.
- Choose the form and click Test trigger to load a sample entry.
- Choose the action app and assign the form fields to the app's fields.
Three ways to get data out of a form
To send the data straight to a URL or another tool's API, without an intermediate connector, look at WPForms Webhooks. If you prefer automations to live inside WordPress, there are Uncanny Automator Pro and AutomatorWP Pro.
