About WPMonks Gravity Forms Tooltips Addon

The note one person needs gets read by everyone

Someone does not know what to enter in the "Reference number" field and writes to you. You add an explanation under the field. Then another under "Account type", and another on the option that always confuses people. The form grows, and those who already knew the answer now scroll through the same amount of text as whoever had the question.

Every visible explanation takes its space from everyone filling in the form, and it helps only some of them. A tooltip changes that split: help sits one gesture away for those who want it, and everyone else keeps a shorter form in view.

Tooltips for Gravity Forms, by WPMonks, lets you add that help next to field labels and adjust how it looks.

Look and placement of your tooltips

  • 9 tooltip icons to choose from.
  • 6 themes for the text container.
  • Icon size you can set.
  • Container width for the tooltip.
  • Animation when the tooltip shows.
  • Spacing between icon and container, to your liking.
  • Container position relative to the icon.

Which text deserves hiding and which does not

A tooltip works well for what only a few people ask: where to find a number, what an option means, which format a date takes. That information barely gets in the way of those who do not need it.

Conditions that affect everyone call for different treatment. A deadline, a fee or a requirement for sending the form should stay in plain sight, because anyone who never opens the tooltip never sees it. For that, Gravity Forms already has the field description, which appears with the field without this add-on.

A styling add-on with no wider remit

It does not work on its own: it is a premium add-on for Styles & Layouts for Gravity Forms, which in turn needs Gravity Forms. Its features do not include field validation or conditional logic of its own: it adds visual help next to the label.

Nor does it replace a good label. If a field always needs explaining, changing its label may solve that sooner than an icon.

Styles & Layouts first, the first tooltip after

It requires Gravity Forms and the Styles & Layouts for Gravity Forms plugin. To get started:

  1. Install and activate Styles & Layouts for Gravity Forms.
  2. Install and activate this add-on.
  3. Open the customizer and pick the form.
  4. Write the tooltip for the field that raises the most questions.
  5. Choose icon, theme and position, and check the result on the published form.
  6. Try it on a phone as well before adding the rest.

More pieces for designing your forms

Custom Themes, also by WPMonks and built on the same styling plugin, saves your Gravity Forms designs as themes to reuse on other forms.

If you do not have the form engine yet, Gravity Forms is the base this add-on needs, and its field description is one way to show help that is always visible.

Icons, sizes and plugins: the usual questions

Do I need another plugin besides Gravity Forms?

Yes, Styles & Layouts for Gravity Forms.

How many icons and themes does it include?

9 icons and 6 themes.

Where does the tooltip appear?

Next to the field label, and you can change the container position relative to the icon.

Can I change the size?

Yes, both the icon size and the container width.

Does it work with WPForms?

This one is for Gravity Forms. WPMonks has a separate tooltips add-on for WPForms.
