For the agency or freelancer who hands over sites to clients, not for someone who just wants a nice login logo
You deliver a finished WordPress site and the client logs into the dashboard: they see the WordPress logo, third-party notices, menus they don't understand and system emails that don't carry your name. Branda (formerly Ultimate Branding) exists for that: so what the client sees looks made to measure rather than like a generic installation.
It pays off for whoever manages several sites or a multisite network and wants branding in one place. If you have a single site of your own and only want to change the login logo, it's more tool than you need. And note: Branda changes appearance and texts, it doesn't add business features to your site (it is not a builder or a store).
Also, part of what is described here (SMTP email logging, for example) is a Pro feature, so check which modules are active in your installation.
What you can change in the dashboard with Branda
- Login screen: design your own login with your logo and background.
- Admin panel: custom dashboard widgets, feeds, admin CSS and color schemes.
- Menus and admin bar: customize the menus and the top bar, even the "Proudly powered by WordPress" text.
- Find and replace text: change any text in the dashboard without touching code.
The underlying idea is that the client never has to wonder what this "WordPress" that shows up everywhere is.
Emails with your name, not the server's
Many clients only see your work when an email arrives: password recovery, new user alert, system notification. Branda lets you customize those templates and set up sending via SMTP, as well as keep a log of sent emails. It's a detail that is almost always overlooked, and it's exactly where a client notices whether you've delivered something polished.
Multisite: one brand for the whole network
If you run a multisite network, you can apply branding across the whole network and decide who can access Branda's settings. That saves you from repeating the setup site by site. If you have independent sites, you will need to configure each one.
Maintenance pages, cookie notices and tracking codes
It includes maintenance and "coming soon" screens with your look, a cookie notice and a section to add analytics codes. They are handy extras for centralizing everything, but if you already use a dedicated cookie or analytics plugin, consider whether you want to duplicate functions.
Regarding privacy regulations: a cookie notice alone doesn't guarantee compliance; review your specific case.
