A dropdown that says “Blue” doesn’t show which blue it is
Someone buying a T-shirt or a ring wants to see the color, the fabric or the shape before choosing. With the default WooCommerce selector they have to read a text list in a dropdown, open it and guess. If your catalog has several options per product (size, color, material), every extra click is a chance for the customer to get tired and leave.
YITH Color, Image & Label Variation Swatches Premium replaces that dropdown with visual swatches. And the key in this sector is that customers decide with their eyes, so the options need to look like what you will actually ship.
Three swatch styles for each attribute
For every attribute you create, you choose how it is presented:
- Color: swatches with a color code. You can create global colors and, if a product has a different shade, change it only on that product without touching the rest. There are also bicolor swatches for items with two dominant tones.
- Image: works for photos, icons or fabric and pattern samples.
- Label: text buttons for sizes and materials.
It works for clothing (sizes, colors, fabrics) as well as jewelry (gemstone shape, necklace length, ring size), or any product with variations.

You can decide whether options show only on the product page or also on the shop page and categories. If your products have many attributes, you choose which ones to show in the listing (for example, colors yes, sizes no) and keep the rest for the product page.
Other useful features:
- A dedicated image gallery for each variation, for example one per color.
- A tooltip on hover with the option name and, if you want, an image preview. You can customize its color, position and animation.
- Changing the size or color from the cart, in a modal window, without removing the product and going back to the product page.
- Adjusting the size and rounding of the swatches and the border color.
Do you need this plugin or is the dropdown enough?
It is worth it if you sell products where the choice is visual: clothing, footwear, jewelry, accessories or items with finishes and textures. If your variations are few and purely technical, you probably won’t gain much.
Important: it is a plugin for WooCommerce and works on variations that already exist. It does not create variable products for you: you need to set up the attributes and variations first. Also, global colors require some initial work; if your catalog is large, set aside time to organize them properly.
Can I show the swatches on the shop page?
Yes, and you can choose which attributes appear there and which only on the product page.
Does it work for sizes, not just colors?
Yes, with the label style, sizes and materials show as text buttons.
Can I use two colors in one swatch?
Yes, with bicolor swatches.
Can I change a color on just one product?
Yes, you can override an attribute’s global style on a specific product.
Can the customer change the variation in the cart?
Yes, if you enable that option, through a modal window.
