Fifteen seconds to find the product
That is roughly the margin a visitor gives a shop before going elsewhere. With twenty products there is no problem. With a thousand, if the customer has to page through eight screens of grid looking for size 42 boots in black, they will not find them: they will leave.
This plugin adds to WooCommerce the filter panel that solves it, with the instant response customers expect and without reloading the page.
What can be filtered
- Categories, tags and brands, the basic structure of the catalogue.
- Attributes: size, colour, material, whatever you have defined, with colour swatches and icons as well as checkboxes.
- Price, with a slider or minimum and maximum fields.
- Rating and availability, to see only the best rated, what is in stock or what is on sale.
How it gets placed
You create as many filter sets as needed, different ones for each section of the shop, and place them with a widget, shortcode, Gutenberg block or Elementor widget. Vertically in the sidebar or horizontally above the listing, and on mobile it opens as a modal, which is the only way a filter panel works on a small screen.
It also brings two touches that large catalogues appreciate: it hides filters that would lead nowhere, and with variable products it shows the matching variation rather than the parent product.
The two things to get right
Cleaning up the attributes. A filter is only as good as the data it filters. If your catalogue has colour recorded as "Black", "black", "Negro" and "Matte black", the filter will show four options for one thing and the customer will conclude the shop is a mess. No plugin does that normalisation work for you, and it is most of the real effort.
Deciding what gets indexed. Every filter combination generates a different address, and on a large catalogue that means thousands of nearly identical pages. Leave them all open to search engines and crawling scatters, and rankings suffer. The plugin lets you control what gets indexed and how those addresses are formed: worth configuring from the start.
