About Yootheme Widgetkit for WordPress

Galleries that break when the client uploads their photos

You hand over a flawless gallery, and two weeks later the client uploads images of different sizes and proportions and everything falls out of alignment. Whoever installs Widgetkit is usually a designer or freelancer maintaining other people's sites, and what matters is not the visual effect but an editing panel that holds up in hands other than yours. That is why it matters so much that Widgetkit crops and resizes images automatically.

From an empty widget to the shortcode in your post, step by step

A typical case: the project gallery of a studio that is updated every month.

  • Choose the source and the widget. You decide whether the content is custom or loaded dynamically from WordPress or from a third-party plugin, and you pick the widget that displays it best. Both decisions can be changed later, so you don't have to get them right the first time.
  • Add the content. You can create a single item or select several at once from the media library. The widget settings sit in an adjacent tab, so you configure while you load.
  • Sort and complete. You drag and drop items and reorder them whenever you want. If you need more data per item, you add custom fields on top of the predefined ones.
  • Insert. The widget manager gathers all your galleries, sliders and slideshows. Clicking a title generates a shortcode that you paste into the post or page.

Note the last step: insertion is done by shortcode. Widgetkit does not replace your site's editor or place anything on its own.

The 15 widgets in Widgetkit

The collection includes gallery, slideshow, grid, switcher, slideset, slider, popover, accordion, parallax, list and map, with variants of some of them (for example, slideshow panel).

All of them adapt their look to the theme you use, and there are animated transitions for sliders and slideshows. They support touch gestures on mobile and keyboard navigation. CSS and JavaScript files are combined, minified and cached, and images use lazy loading.

Widgetkit is not a page builder

It is a plugin of content modules: it does not lay out whole pages, create forms or set up a shop. If you are looking for that, you will need other tools and should use Widgetkit only for galleries and sliders.

Don't assume either that any plugin works as a dynamic content source. Check in the demo whether the one you use is among the available providers.

Frequently asked questions before installing it

Does it work well on mobile?

Yes: the widgets support touch gestures and keyboard navigation.

Can I display content I already have in another plugin?

It can load dynamic content from popular third-party plugins and from external services, but you should verify that yours is supported.

Can it be extended with my own widgets?

It is modular and extendable by design, so you can add your own widgets or content providers.

Will it look different from the rest of my site?

The widgets adapt their look to the active theme, so they usually blend in with the design you already have.
