About Advanced Ads – Google Ad Manager Integration
Ad slots that earn nothing because of a badly copied tag
Anyone who lives off display advertising knows every slot on the page is inventory with an expiry date: if the ad does not load, that slice of audience goes unsold. And in Google Ad Manager the failures are rarely dramatic: a header tag that does not match the body tag, a unit that looks the same on mobile and desktop, an empty container leaving a hole in the middle of an article.
This Advanced Ads add-on brings your Google Ad Manager units into WordPress so you can place them without touching code and without matching tags by hand. It works with Google Ad Manager and Google Ad Manager 360.
From your Google Ad Manager account to the page, step by step
Picture a news site with a mobile leaderboard, a rectangle inside articles and campaigns sold by section. The workflow would be this:
- You import the units. You load all units in bulk, or only the ones you need. The add-on matches the header code and the body code for you. It only reads information from the account: it writes nothing to it.
- You adapt the size to the screen. With size mapping, a single unit serves a mobile leaderboard, a medium rectangle or other formats depending on the available space, instead of duplicating units per device.
- You place them on the site. Since it is an Advanced Ads add-on, the units can be used with automatic content injection, display and visitor conditions and cache busting.
- You target by category or tag. With key-values, a single unit delivers different ads depending on the category, the tag or the placement. Key-values and line items are set up beforehand in Google Ad Manager: the add-on does not create them.
- You take care of AMP and empty slots. You can adjust sizes for AMP pages, disable specific units on them with a checkbox, decide when and how containers without an ad collapse, and automatically refresh a unit in the same spot.
GPT tags you already have on the site keep working alongside the ones the add-on generates, so you can migrate gradually.
Common questions about Advanced Ads – Google Ad Manager Integration
Where do I check ad performance?
In Google Ad Manager, as before. The add-on does not modify your ads there: it imports the codes and places the GPT tags dynamically, and measurement stays the same as on any other website.
Does it work on its own?
No. You need a Google Ad Manager account with units already created and Advanced Ads, of which this is an add-on.
Is it useful for non-WordPress sites?
Advanced Ads can only be installed on WordPress. To deliver ads to other websites it offers its ad server feature and its REST API.
Advanced Ads – Google Ad Manager Integration does not replace Google Ad Manager
It is a layer for placing and adapting ads in WordPress. It does not create units or change anything in your account: the commercial side, the orders and the statistics stay in Google Ad Manager. If you do not work with that platform, this add-on makes no sense for you.
