About Advanced Ads – Selling Ads
The small banner that costs you an afternoon of emails
Selling an ad spot on your website seems simple until someone writes to you: you have to explain which formats exist, agree on dates, send payment details, wait for the banner, ask them to resend it in another size and, in the end, remember to take it down when the period ends. With one advertiser it doesn't matter. With ten a month, the management eats up what you earn.
Advanced Ads – Selling Ads is an Advanced Ads add-on that turns that back and forth into a purchase process: the advertiser chooses, pays, uploads their ad and logs into their account to see what they have bought. You decide the products, the prices and where they are shown, and you only step in at one point: approving the content.
Ad products with the conditions you set
The central piece is the "ad product". You define it once and the advertiser buys it the way they would buy anything in a shop:
- Sales model: per day, per impressions or per clicks. You can offer different prices depending on duration or volume.
- Ad type: image or HTML, depending on what you want to accept in each product.
- Placement: you choose which of your placements can be bought and where each product will appear.
- Name and description: the texts with which the advertiser sees the offer.
From payment to published ad, with your approval in between
When someone buys, an ad is automatically created in draft status and the advertiser receives an email with a link to a page where they upload their content. Once submitted, the ad becomes pending and you get a notice to review it. If you don't like it, you reject it and the advertiser can upload another one. If you approve it, it is published in the chosen placement.
Each advertiser has an account with a list of purchases and links to the statistics of their ads, so they stop writing to you to ask how it is going.
Three websites, three ways to get the most out of Advanced Ads – Selling Ads
A blog or media site with regular visits
This is the clearest case: you have fixed spots (sidebar, header, end of article) and buyers who come back. A short catalogue of products, each with its placement, saves you from negotiating case by case.
A niche site with a small audience
Selling per day instead of per impressions or clicks may suit you better: the advertiser understands what they are buying and you don't depend on traffic figures that are not yet large. Adjust prices to what you really offer.
Anyone who already sells with WooCommerce
Ads go through the same shop, with the same payment methods. If you already have payment gateways set up, you don't need to build a separate system to charge for advertising.
Common questions before you open ad sales
Which payment methods does it support?
Those of WooCommerce: PayPal, Stripe, card, bank transfer and others. With WooCommerce payment extensions you can add options such as Klarna, Payoneer or Amazon Pay. The advertiser chooses at checkout.
Can I charge per click or per impression?
Yes, as well as per day. You define each product and its prices.
Is the ad published without me seeing it?
No. The ad stays pending and you approve or reject it before it goes live.
Does it work on a non-WordPress site?
The add-on is installed on WordPress. To serve ads to other websites there is the ad server or the Advanced Ads REST API, but the sales are managed from your WordPress.
It needs WooCommerce and you reviewing every ad
Without WooCommerce there is no payment, because the add-on is built on it. Also, review is manual: if you sell a lot, every new ad passes through your hands. And it is not an ad network: advertisers come to you, so the audience you offer has to exist.
