The problem with CSS is not writing it: it is remembering why you wrote it

You lay things out by eye and it works. This block carries twenty-three pixels of spacing because it looked right, the next one carries twenty because that looked right too, and the inner page's heading is slightly smaller than the home page's without anybody able to say whether that was deliberate.

Six months later somebody else comes in to touch the site, or you come back yourself remembering nothing, and there is no way to deduce the rule because there never was a rule: there were a hundred loose decisions taken by eye.

Automatic.css attacks that by putting the system first. You define the scales once (colour, typography, spacing) and from then on you build with classes that mean something, not with loose numbers. Consistency stops depending on your memory.

What the official Automatic.css licence covers

The framework activated on your site, with the developer's updates while the licence is current and their support. The GPLClub team leaves the activation ready on your domain.

What it does

• Generates the complete system of colour, typography, spacing and containers from your settings, without writing CSS.
• Works with fluid values: sizes adapt to screen width on their own, rather than jumping between breakpoints.
• Runs over several builders, Bricks, Oxygen and the block editor among them.
• Looks after accessibility, with calculated contrasts instead of ones picked by eye.
• Stays in classes and variables, so what reaches the browser is CSS, with no strange layers in between.

When it pays

If you work with other people. A shared class system is what lets two people build the same site and have the result look like one person made it.

If you build similar projects over and over. The system gets defined once and reused; every new project starts with the decisions already taken.

If you make one page and never touch it again, it gets little use: building a system for something that will not grow is surplus work.

There is a real learning curve, and it is worth saying: for the first few days you will look up class names more than you would like. It gets paid once. About licensing and the GPL

The code is distributed under the GPL licence and its use is free. Updates, support and activation against the developer's servers are separate services contracted with them. They are not the same thing, and buying one is not buying the other.
