About ConsentMagic Pro
The cookie notice decides how much data you will have
It gets treated as an annoying legal formality to put up and forget, and it is actually one of the pieces with most influence on the business of any site that advertises.
The reason is arithmetic. If sixty per cent of your visitors accept tracking, you measure sixty per cent. If thirty accept, your campaigns learn on half the information and perform worse. Between a well-considered notice and one thrown up carelessly there are tens of points of difference, and those points are money.
ConsentMagic is built on that idea explicitly: obtaining consent while respecting what the law requires where the visitor is.
What it does
- Automatic blocking of scripts and cookies until the user gives consent, which is the part that genuinely complies.
- Rules by location: it shows each visitor the notice their country's laws call for.
- Direct integration with PixelYourSite and with other marketing tools.
- Script control, for deciding what loads and when.
Prior blocking is what separates complying from appearing to
Here is the point most people overlook, and it is the one that gets fined.
A great many sites show a cookie notice while the cookies are already set. The visitor sees the banner, presses accept, and the only thing that has changed is that the banner disappears: the tracking had been running since the page loaded.
That complies with nothing. Consent has to come first, and that means the scripts do not execute until there is a yes. A plugin that only shows a banner is decoration; the one that genuinely blocks is the one that helps.
Persuading yes, deceiving no, and the difference is defined
Since this plugin is sold on its ability to obtain acceptances, it is worth saying where the line sits, because it is fairly clear and it is being enforced.
What cannot be done: making rejection cost more clicks than acceptance, hiding the reject button in a submenu, greying it out while accept is in colour, treating continued browsing as acceptance, or pre-ticking the boxes. European authorities have said so explicitly and there are fines for each of those practices.
What can be done, and works: explaining in one sentence what you use the data for and what the visitor gains, not interrupting reading with a full screen that covers the content, asking for consent at the right moment rather than the instant they arrive, and having a fast, well-laid-out notice. A clear notice with both options equally accessible usually obtains more acceptances than a deceitful one, as well as not exposing you.
The mental rule: rejecting has to be as easy as accepting. Everything else is design.
Requirements
It needs WordPress. And a warning that saves frights: when you enable prior blocking, check the whole site. It is normal for something to stop working, because scripts with nothing to do with tracking were loading from the same place.
Alternatives in the catalogue
The catalogue's other option is GDPR Cookie Consent, with automatic scanning of the site's cookies, which is useful because hardly anybody genuinely knows which ones they set.
The piece that goes alongside is measurement: PixelYourSite Pro, which this integrates with directly, or Pixel Manager for WooCommerce if your shop needs complete commerce events.
And if as well as measuring you want the reports inside WordPress, MonsterInsights does that part.
Frequently asked questions
Is showing the notice enough?
No. The scripts have to be blocked until there is consent. A banner with no blocking does not comply.
Can the same notice go to everybody?
It can, but the rules change by country. Location rules exist precisely for that.
Can I make rejecting harder?
No. It is expressly sanctioned and there are fines for it.
Does consent hurt search rankings?
A badly built notice that covers the content, yes. A well-made one, no.
Does it integrate with measurement?
Yes, it integrates directly with PixelYourSite and the usual marketing tools.
What do I check after enabling it?
The whole site. It is common for a legitimate script to stop loading once prior blocking is on.
