Changing how a 404 page, a category archive or a product page looks usually ends up in a child theme, PHP files and the fear of breaking something. That is why many sites end up with a single template for content that has nothing to do with each other.

Custom Page Templates solves this with rules: you design the template in WPBakery Page Builder and define which pages, which users and which conditions it applies to. There is no need to write PHP or HTML, everything is done from the editor.

Rules, priorities and dynamic values: how the winning template is decided

Each rule has these settings:

• Status: enable or disable the rule without deleting it.
• Priority: defines the processing order; the lowest number is processed first.
• Request: the page type, such as front page, 404 error, search, blog home, date archive, author, custom post type archive, single post of any registered type or term of any taxonomy.
• User: logged in, logged out or with a specific role.
• Terms and formats: only if the post belongs to certain categories, tags, custom taxonomies or a particular post format.

There is no limit on templates, either in total or for a single page type. You can have several rules competing and let priority sort out the result.

Dynamic shortcode values let you redefine the attribute, the content or a custom placeholder of any shortcode, and they work with the ones you already have. The plugin also adds more than 30 shortcodes and a clipboard for WPBakery: you copy elements with their settings, organize them as favorites or export them to another website.

Common questions before installing it

Does it work with any theme? It is independent of the theme, so it should work with those on the market; the ones listed above are the ones that have been tested most thoroughly.

Can I have several templates for the same page type? Yes. There is no limit, and the priority of each rule decides which one is processed first.

Does it work with custom fields? Advanced Custom Fields is among the supported plugins, along with WooCommerce, Massive Addons and Ultimate Addons for WPBakery Page Builder.

Can I hide parts of a page from visitors? Yes, based on login status, role or a custom function.

Custom Page Templates needs WPBakery Page Builder

Templates are built with WPBakery Page Builder, and content restriction is also handled from that editor. If your site works with another builder, this plugin is not what you are looking for. It is not a builder on its own either: it provides the rules, the shortcodes and the dynamic values, and you do the design with WPBakery.
