Selling a gift box, a curated selection or a custom kit usually ends one of two ways: customers write to ask for combinations by hand, or they buy single products and nobody offers them the whole set. Custom Product Boxes is designed so the buyer fills the box themselves from the WooCommerce product page.

It suits stores whose catalog has combinations that make sense (cosmetics, food, stationery, gifts, kits of any kind) and want customers to choose. If all you need is a fixed pack of two or three products with a discount, it's probably more complexity than you need.

Limits worth knowing before you buy:

• It is not compatible with the WooCommerce Products Add-on extension.
• If you want to charge extra for wrapping or a gift box, you need the WooCommerce Product Add-ons extension, which is bought separately and is not included.
• Subscriptions depend on WooCommerce Subscriptions, which is not part of the plugin either.

How the buyer builds the box

Customers add and remove products directly in the box or with the option next to each product. Each product shows its featured image and short description, so they can choose without doubts. A quick view pop-up shows the details and an enlarged image without leaving the purchase flow.

For long listings, the plugin lets you sort by date to show the newest items first, and lock the scroll so the box stays in view while the customer browses the products. There is also a category dropdown filter above the selection area.

Box capacity

You can set a minimum and a maximum number of items, and customers adjust the quantity with plus and minus controls according to their budget. You can even sell partially filled boxes so you don't block the purchase.

Pricing: fixed, variable or with a base price

There are three ways to set the price, and choosing well matters because it changes your margin:

• Fixed price for the box, whatever the contents.
• Variable price, calculated from the products the customer adds.
• Base price plus the contents, useful if the box or wrapping has its own cost.

You can also apply discounts to mix and match boxes to raise their perceived value. Inventory updates with what the customer picks, so stock reflects each individual product.

Pre-filled boxes, gifts and subscriptions

Besides free-form boxes, you can create ready-made kits with products that complement each other, for those who don't want to decide. You can link products to a box for upselling or cross-selling, and let the customer choose among the linked products.

For gifts, the customer can add a personal message while creating the box. And with WooCommerce Subscriptions you can offer boxes with monthly or yearly renewal.

To fill the product list quickly, you can choose whole categories, specific products or the entire shop, and include specific variations. There is no limit on the number of boxes you can create.

Box design inside your theme

The box supports horizontal, vertical or vertical-right orientation, and the Legacy, Card or Modern layouts. From a frontend customizer you adjust layout, colors and style to fit your store. There is a configurable placeholder image for the box, and separate settings for boxes and for add-on products. You can hide those products from the rest of the shop.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the cart empty after adding products?

It usually happens if the product page loads over an insecure URL. Make sure it is served over HTTPS.

Products don't add to the box and I only see a spinner, what do I do?

Disable the lightbox in WooCommerce, Settings, Product, Display, by unchecking the lightbox option for product images.

Images look blurry

Set the thumbnail size to match the box where it is displayed and regenerate thumbnails from WooCommerce's image settings.

Can I add a wrapping option with an extra cost?

Yes, with the WooCommerce Product Add-ons extension, which is bought separately.

Does it work with product categories?

Yes, you can build boxes from whole categories.
