You prepare a new service page from another that works well. You duplicate it, change two paragraphs and leave it for tomorrow. A few weeks go by and your list shows several pages with nearly identical titles: one published, another half edited, another nobody remembers the purpose of. To tell which is which, you have to open them one by one.

Duplicating content solves the moment and leaves a tidying job for later. Every new copy is one more page someone must be able to identify, and that is worth deciding before creating the first one, with a rule that applies itself.

Duplicate Page Pro clones posts, pages and custom post types with one click. It also gives you control over how that copy is born: its status, its name and who can create it.

Rules so that every copy is born tidy

• Title prefix. Adds text before the name, for example Copy or Clone.
• Title suffix. Does the same after the name.
• Default values. Prefix and suffix are set in the settings and apply to new copies.
• Copy status. You choose which to assign. By default it is draft.
• Destination after cloning. You decide where the link takes you. By default you return to the post listing.

Draft as a starting point has a clear advantage: the copy is not published by accident while you edit it. If your work calls for another status, you can change it.

Who clones, what and from where

On a site with several people, permission to duplicate is also a tidiness decision. Duplicate Page Pro lets you set which user roles reach the feature and on which post types the link shows.

You also choose where it appears: on the edit page, in the row of the post listing or under the post button on the admin bar. And you can change the Duplicate This text to whatever name your team understands best.

For custom post types there is an option in the settings that lets you include them. If you duplicate content made with a page builder, those posts and pages are cloned too. Even so, review the first copy of each important template before relying on it.

The work that starts after the click

This plugin copies content inside your WordPress. Migration, copying content to another site and backups are not among its features.

It does not rewrite anything either. A copy published unchanged is the same text at two addresses, so the editorial work is still yours: title, permalink, description and original content. And copies that no longer serve have to be removed by hand, because the prefix helps you find them but does not delete them.

Your first copy with the rules in place

It runs on WordPress and you can arrive from the free version, Duplicate Page: no data is lost when upgrading. It is worth configuring before cloning:

1. Install and activate Duplicate Page Pro.
2. Open its settings and write the prefix or suffix your team will use, in fields such as Duplicate Post Prefix.
3. Set the copy status, the allowed roles and the post types.
4. If you work with the block editor, select Gutenberg Editor under Choose Editor.
5. Duplicate a test page and check its status and title.

When you need to copy the whole site
