About Easy Digital Downloads Zapier

Your store sells down one path, but orders end up on several

You want every purchase to reach your spreadsheet, your CRM or your team chat. For that you connect the "new order" event, and it looks like everything is done.

An Easy Digital Downloads order goes through different states, and each one is its own trigger: pending, failed, abandoned, refunded or revoked. If you only listen for the new order, your automations miss everything else.

Easy Digital Downloads Zapier is the integration that sends your store's order and customer data to more than 5,000 third-party services through Zapier. You pick each event as a trigger, and from there you build whatever you want in the destination service.

The triggers it offers

With EDD alone, these events are available:

  • Customers: new customer and updated customer.
  • Orders: order created, pending order, failed order, abandoned order, refunded order, revoked order and pre-approved order.
  • Downloads: file downloaded.

With the EDD recurring payments add-on, the subscription triggers are added: created, renewal payment processed, renewed, completed, expired, failing and cancelled. With the software licensing add-on, the key triggers are added: created, active, inactive, expired, disabled, activated and deactivated.

Possible destinations include email and SMS, CRMs, accounting, mailing lists, spreadsheets, contact directories, help desks and team chats.

Two order events, two destinations

One way to use the list of states: create a zap for the new order that records the sale in a spreadsheet, and another for the failed or abandoned order that notifies your team chat. That way whoever runs the store also sees the people who did not complete the purchase. This is one idea of use; adjust it to your store.

Zapier and the add-ons it takes

Among its features there are no connections that work without Zapier: you need an account on that service. The subscription and key triggers depend on their matching EDD add-ons, and without them those events do not appear.

The integration sends store data to other services. Each destination decides what to do with the data and which fields it accepts.

Connecting the store to Zapier

You need Easy Digital Downloads and a Zapier account. To get started:

  1. Install the plugin with the WordPress installer and activate it.
  2. Open the integration's invite link to access the zap.
  3. Create the connection in Zapier with the store's extension.
  4. Choose the trigger, for example new order, and the destination service.

Webhooks and automation in the catalog

If you prefer to connect with webhooks, look at WP Webhooks Pro and AutomatorWP Webhooks. To automate inside the site itself, there is Uncanny Automator Pro.

If you are interested in the EDD add-ons that enable the additional triggers, the catalog includes Recurring Payments and Software Licensing.
