About Envira Gallery Password Protection Addon

The risk of a private gallery isn't hackers, it's forwarding

Uploading the photos from a job so the client can view them often ends with a gallery accidentally left public, a link going around WhatsApp or a separate folder nobody can find. The problem is rarely that someone breaks in: it's that what you show before closing or delivering a job ends up in front of someone who shouldn't see it.

Envira Gallery Password Protection Addon locks access to Envira Gallery galleries and albums with a password you choose, and it's managed from each gallery's visibility settings.

Password, username or private link: three ways to control access

  • Password per gallery or album: you can set a different password on each gallery or a single one on a whole album, depending on how you group your work.
  • Optional email or username: besides the password, you can require an email or a username. That way, the password alone isn't enough to get in.
  • Messages your way: you can customize the 'password required' and 'wrong password' texts, so the barrier sounds like your brand and not a generic error.
  • Private link: a unique URL to share a gallery without a password. Whoever has the link gets in, and nobody else.

Photographer, company or creator: how Envira Gallery Password Protection Addon fits each case

If you photograph for clients

You can give each client their own gallery with its own password, or send a private link when you need to show something in a hurry. If you also use Envira Gallery's favorites selection, the client views and chooses in one place.

If you're a company with internal material

An album of event photos, unreleased products or your team can be protected with a single password. Requiring an email or username as well adds a second piece of data to check.

If you offer exclusive content to your community

Previews, behind-the-scenes material or promotions: a password-protected gallery becomes a privilege for whoever receives it, without building a members area.

Frequently asked questions

Can I protect just one gallery?

Yes. Each gallery can have its own password, or you can apply one to a whole album.

Can I share without a password?

Yes, with the private link: only whoever has it gets access.

Can I ask for something besides the password?

Yes, optionally an email or a username, which will be requested along with the password.

Where do I turn it on?

When editing the gallery, in the visibility settings, you choose the password-protected option, type the password and publish or update.

It works only inside Envira Gallery and can't control what the password holder does

It's an addon: it needs Envira Gallery to exist and only protects galleries and albums built with it, not the rest of the pages on your site. And a password doesn't stop a client from forwarding it, just as a private link can be passed on by whoever receives it. If image downloads, watermarks or role-based permissions worry you, those are separate Envira Gallery features worth considering alongside this addon.
