About EventOn Action User Add-on

One setting decides whether a submission goes live unread

A local organizer sees your calendar and wants to add their concert without asking you for dashboard access. They fill in a form and send it. What happens next is your decision, and it defines what your audience sees and who answers for it.

The default status of submissions decides who answers for the calendar: with immediate publication, your site shows events that nobody on the team has read, and with approval, each submission waits for your review.

ActionUser is an add-on for EventON. It lets visitors submit events from the website without entering the administration dashboard. The form is placed on any page with a shortcode or an EventON block, and what is submitted feeds the calendar. Each submission generates an automatic email for you, and the default status can be held for approval or published immediately.

What the form offers and how it is moderated

  • Form on any page: with a shortcode or block, in a lightbox that adapts to mobile.
  • Fields to your measure: you choose which fields show and in what order, and you can add custom HTML fields.
  • Event types: the sender picks them, or you assign fixed values to submissions.
  • Who can submit: only logged-in users or any visitor.
  • Draft or immediate publication: you choose whether submissions go live instantly or are saved as drafts for review.
  • One submission per user: you can limit logged-in users to one submission each.
  • Guest details: visitor submissions can collect name and email so you can contact them.
  • Private notes: the sender can leave a message that only administrators see.
  • Anti-spam: includes validation with its own CAPTCHA.
  • Redirects: you can define where the person goes after submitting, and several submissions in a row are allowed.

The event manager, placed on a page with a shortcode, lets logged-in users browse, search, edit and delete their events within their permissions. Permissions are assigned by WordPress role from the ActionUser settings, and fine-tuned for specific users.

The Assign All Users option makes events visible to all users, which is useful for shared calendars or announcements.

A community calendar with one reviewer

Imagine a cultural agenda site for an area where associations and venues submit their activities. You could require login, leave the status on pending approval and show only the fields you need: title, date, place and type. Each submission reaches you by email, you review it and publish it. It is only an outline; adapt it to your area's agenda.

Requirement and functions of another add-on

It needs EventON to work. Free or paid submission tiers through WooCommerce, designed for event directories, belong to another add-on, ActionUser Plus.

The one-submission-per-user limit is optional: if the same person needs to submit a series of events, do not turn it on.

How to get started

You need WordPress with EventON active. Then:

  1. Install the add-on like any plugin and activate it.
  2. Open the ActionUser settings and decide whether the default status is approval or immediate publication.
  3. Choose the visible fields, their order and the event types.
  4. Place the form on a page with the shortcode or the block.
  5. Assign permissions by role.

Related add-ons and calendars

The base calendar is EventON. If you want the same idea of event submission in another calendar, look at Community Events for The Events Calendar. To sell tickets inside EventON there is EventON Event Tickets.
