About EventON Ticket Variations and Options
Your venue's capacity is not the sum of your variations
You split an event into general, VIP and student, give each type its own stock and assume capacity is under control. But each variation only counts itself. If their allocations add up to more than the real seats, or you leave one blank, which means unlimited, every type keeps selling even when the room is already full.
Once you divide a ticket you no longer have a single seat counter, and you need one that overrides them all. Ticket Variations & Options has it: global stock sets the maximum attendees or tickets for the event, and cart validation stops any combination of types from going over it.
This add-on extends EventON Tickets with per-event variations and paid extras. It does not work alone: it needs EventON, the tickets add-on and WooCommerce.
Variations for the ticket, extras for what comes with it
- Variations: you first create a type, such as "Ticket Type", with its values. Each variation combines one or more types and carries its own price, quantity and stock status.
- Price options: extras added to the purchase, such as t-shirts, caps, popcorn or a guided tour. They have a name, price, description, stock and status.
- Individual or multiple selling: each price option is limited to one per ticket or lets buyers add as many as they want.
- Selective sold out: you can stop one variation and keep the others on sale.
- Hidden base price: if you prefer, only the variation prices are shown.
- Member access: by default anyone can buy; you can reserve chosen variations for logged-in users.
The chosen values pass into the WooCommerce cart and checkout.
One ticket, or one ticket per variation
Variations can be sold as part of a single ticket, or each one as an independent ticket. You can also let people buy only variations, without the event's main ticket.
The event's attendee view filters by variation value, and variation and option data feed into the ticket sales statistics.
Combined with other EventON add-ons, it reaches two more formats:
- Seats: each seat can carry its own options.
- Bookings: each booking block takes several variations, with price and stock per block.
Repeating events are left out
This is the limit that decides the purchase: the add-on is not compatible with repeating events. If your calendar relies on recurring runs of the same event, it does not fit.
A few other details show up during setup:
- Option values cannot contain hyphens or commas.
- Price option names cannot contain apostrophes.
- With Seats or Bookings, variations and options are added inside the seat map editor or the booking manager.
Creating the first variation inside an event
You need EventON, Event Tickets and WooCommerce active, along with this add-on. The route inside an event goes like this:
- Create the event, enable tickets and enter the price and SKU, which are required.
- Publish and reload the page so the dynamic options appear.
- Enable variations and options, and open their settings.
- Create the variation type with its values separated by commas.
- Add one variation per value, with its price and stock.
- Create the price options you want to sell and choose how they are sold.
- Check the event on the site and make a test purchase with global stock active.
What it pairs with in the catalog
EventON Event Tickets is the piece this add-on needs: it creates the WooCommerce product for each ticket and handles the sale from the event. Beneath it sits EventON, the calendar. If you only need different prices for one ticket, the tickets add-on already supports WooCommerce variations.
Blank stock, global stock and repeating events
What happens if I leave a variation's stock empty?
It becomes unlimited. The same goes for price options. A fixed quantity caps what can be bought.
Does global stock replace each variation's stock?
They work at different levels. A variation's stock limits that type, and global stock limits the event total.
Does it work for weekly workshops on the same repeating event?
With repeating events, no. Bookings creates booking blocks inside an event and takes variations per block: check whether that format suits your workshops.
