About GamiPress - BuddyPress Notifications
Notifying about everything in a community means notifying about very little
A member completes a step, earns points and moves up a rank in a single session. If each of those events generates its own notice, their bell fills with messages that compete with each other.
When points, steps, achievements and ranks share the same bell, choosing what stays silent is part of designing the program, not a final tweak.
GamiPress BuddyPress Notifications alerts your BuddyPress members about what they earn, using the BuddyPress notifications component. It covers new achievements, steps, points awarded or deducted, ranks and completed rank requirements. Each type can be enabled, disabled or worded separately.
What it announces and how it is configured
- Notices of what was earned: achievements, steps, points awarded, points deducted, ranks and rank requirements.
- General settings: configure or disable the notices of all elements at once.
- Settings by type: configure or disable the notices of a specific type, for example to remove all rank notices.
- Dynamic tags: each notice's text is built with patterns that show, for example, the member's name.
- Content tags: title, content, image, URL and user data.
- Points in the notice: the points tag takes the amount awarded or deducted from the user's own earning.
- Single steps: there is an option to skip notices for individual child requirements.
It also covers nominations from GamiPress Nominations and transfers from GamiPress Transfers. The add-on is independent: it works without GamiPress's Notifications add-on.
A narrowed notice board
Think of a community where you only want to announce achievements and rank-ups, not every point or every step. One possible setup:
- You leave the achievement and rank notices on.
- You turn off, in the settings by type, the points awarded and the steps.
- You tick the option to skip individual child requirements.
- You write the text with dynamic tags so each notice carries the member's name.
Use it as a guide; adapt it to what you need.
Limits of GamiPress notices in BuddyPress
- It needs GamiPress and BuddyPress with its notifications component.
- Notices appear in BuddyPress notifications. Among its functions there is no email delivery.
- The single-steps option asks for a more recent GamiPress version than the add-on's minimum.
- The nomination and transfer notices only make sense if you use those GamiPress add-ons.
First steps with GamiPress BuddyPress Notifications
- Check that GamiPress and BuddyPress are active and that the BuddyPress notifications component is enabled.
- Install and activate the add-on.
- Open the general settings and decide which elements announce.
- Go into the settings by type and turn off or word the notices of each one.
