About GamiPress - Coupons
A code is worth as much as its usage limit
You hand out a code in an email or at a talk and expect whoever received it to use it. But a code is just text: anyone who sees it can copy it and pass it on.
A redeemable code is worth as much as its usage limit, not what it cost to create, so the total cap and the per-person cap are part of the prize.
GamiPress Coupons is a GamiPress add-on that creates coupons users redeem for points, achievements or ranks. The user types the code into a form and receives what the coupon grants. Each redemption is logged.
What you can configure in a coupon
- Rewards: points, achievements, ranks or a mix. On a simple coupon, rewards have no limit.
- Validity: start and end date.
- Total cap: limits how many times the coupon can be used overall.
- Per-user cap: limits how many times each person can use it.
- Who can redeem: you restrict to specific users or roles.
- Who cannot: you exclude specific users or roles.
- Log: each redemption is recorded in the logs.
- Redemption form: placed with a shortcode (compatible with GamiPress's live shortcode embedder), a block or a widget in a sidebar.
The administrator's coupon list can be sorted and searched by its columns. Points earned by redeeming create an entry in the user's earnings.
The add-on adds six activity events to use as requirements: redeem a coupon, redeem one with a minimum amount of points, redeem one with an achievement (any of the chosen type or a specific one) and redeem one with a rank (any or a specific one).
A code for event attendees
Think of a code you hand out at a talk that grants points or an achievement to whoever types it. One possible setup:
- You create the coupon and assign the reward.
- You set a start and end date so it only works during the event period.
- You set a total cap on uses.
- You set a per-user cap.
- You place the redemption form on a page with the shortcode, the block or the widget.

Limits of GamiPress coupons
- It needs GamiPress: the rewards are GamiPress points, achievements and ranks.
- Among its functions there are no cart discounts: coupons are redeemed for points, achievements or ranks.
- Set the total cap before handing out the code.

- Install and activate GamiPress and then the add-on.
- Create a coupon and assign its rewards.
- Define the validity and the total and per-user caps.
- Add the restrictions and exclusions by user or role that you need.
- Place the redemption form.
