About Grogin – Grocery Store WooCommerce WordPress Theme

A supermarket shop is thirty products, not one

And there is what makes a grocery shop different from any other. In a clothes shop the customer adds one thing to the cart and pays. In the supermarket they add thirty, and if each one reloads the page, the shop gets abandoned at product twelve.

Grogin is built with that in mind: almost everything happens without a reload. It is a WordPress theme with WooCommerce for supermarkets, grocery shops and organic food retailers.

What works without reloading

  • Adding to the cart, including products with variations and grouped ones.
  • The filters and the search, which on a catalogue of thousands of lines are the real navigation.
  • The sticky cart, always visible on desktop and mobile, so you never lose sight of what you are carrying.
  • Quick view, for looking at a product without leaving the listing.

It also shows the reference and attributes in the listing itself, and variations on the category page, saving clicks when the same product comes in three sizes.

What has to be solved separately

Delivery slots. It is the central piece of this business and no theme brings it. The customer has to choose when they receive, and you have to cap how many orders fit each slot according to the rounds you can run. It gets solved with a delivery date and time plugin, and has to be decided while planning the shop.

Products sold by weight. Half a kilo of tomatoes does not weigh exactly half a kilo. Selling loose forces a decision on how the difference gets charged: a fixed price for an approximate piece, or a final adjusted charge. Each option has consequences at the payment gateway and is worth resolving before opening.

Substitutions. When something has run out between the order and the picking, somebody has to decide whether it gets swapped for another brand or removed. Without a procedure, that means phone calls.

And the mandatory information

Selling food requires showing ingredients, allergens, origin and operator details on each product. With a catalogue of thousands of lines, that is data entry work and worth counting into the project from the start rather than leaving for later.

Alternatives and add-ons in the catalogue

If your business is not a supermarket but hospitality with a menu and orders, WP Cafe is made for that: daily menu, collection or takeaway ordering, and table booking. A grocery catalogue and a restaurant menu resemble each other less than they appear to.

And if you sell food products alongside content, WP Recipe Maker is the missing piece: recipes with ingredients, timings, nutritional values and the structured data that gets Google showing them with a photo and a rating.

That combination works very well in this sector. A food shop publishing recipes using its own products captures searches the product page never will, and every recipe is a natural way into the catalogue.

What is still missing in any case is the delivery slot: that gets solved with a date and time plugin, and in this business it is not optional.
