About Groundhogg - Backup & Restore
When the CRM breaks, restoring the whole website is overkill
A badly configured automation that sends the wrong email, an update that breaks your flows or a compromised site: all of these force you to go back.
Groundhogg - Backup & Restore solves exactly that mismatch: it backs up only your Groundhogg data (its tables and settings), so you can undo what happened in your CRM without touching the rest of the site.
A separate backup of your contacts, emails and flows
It is a Groundhogg add-on, so it works with what you already have in the CRM. These are the features that matter:
- Independent backup and restore: they do not replace your usual WordPress backups, they complement them for the CRM part.
- Background tasks: backups and restores run without blocking the screen and you get an email when they finish, which helps if you have many contacts and don't want it to time out.
- Compressed chunked backups: if the process is interrupted, it resumes instead of starting over with one giant file.
- Complex settings included: Groundhogg settings that are not plain text or numbers also survive the backup and restore.
Move or clone your CRM to another domain without find and replace
Because the backup only contains Groundhogg data, it also works for moving your contacts, emails and flows to a new site or a staging copy. You take the backup on the source site and restore it on the destination.
If the domain is different or the database uses another table prefix, Groundhogg automatically rewrites the affected URLs and table references. You skip the manual database find and replace.
Everything runs from a single screen
Everything happens on one screen in the WordPress dashboard. You start the backup, watch it progress in the background and download the .zip file when it finishes. To restore, you upload that file and see the upload and process status live.
Only one restore can run at a time, so there is no risk of two colliding.
Deciding whether this backup is enough or you need more
This add-on covers Groundhogg data and nothing else. If your worry is losing the entire site (files, posts, pages, theme, other plugins), you also need a general WordPress backup. And of course, it requires Groundhogg to be installed.
Does it replace my current backup plugin?
No. It only saves Groundhogg's tables and settings, not the rest of the site.
Can I use it to move my CRM to another domain?
Yes. You take the backup on the source site, restore it on the new one and Groundhogg adapts the URLs and tables for you, even if the database prefix changes.
Will it time out if I have many contacts?
It is designed to avoid that: it works in the background, splits the backup into compressed chunks that resume if something is interrupted and emails you when it finishes.
Can I run two restores at once?
No. Only one runs at a time, with a visible upload and progress indicator.
Do I also recover my pages and posts?
No, they are not part of the backup. For those you need a full WordPress backup.
