About WPC Composite Products for WooCommerce
When customers want to build their own order and your product page only lets them pick one thing
Selling a computer in parts, a gift pack or a sample set with separate products forces the customer to go from page to page, add up prices in their head and guess whether everything fits. Many give up out of sheer tiredness. WPC Composite Products for WooCommerce turns all of that into a single product where the customer chooses each component and watches the total change as they go.
Here is the idea worth keeping in mind: with a kit, what holds back the purchase is rarely the price, but the doubt about whether they are choosing correctly. A well-built kit reduces that doubt because it shows what is required, what is optional and which option you recommend.
How a composite product works with WPC Composite Products
You create a composite product and add components to it (for example: processor, memory, case). Each component is a step the customer completes. What you can configure:
- The source of the options for each component: specific products, categories, tags or attributes. If you pick a category, you don't have to list products one by one.
- A default product and quantity, which appear first in the selector. It helps you recommend the option you want to push.
- Required or optional components.
- Minimum and maximum quantity per component, and limits on the composite total.
- A short description per component and customizable before and after texts.
- Your own text for the option of selecting nothing.
- A percentage discount.
You change the order of components by dragging and dropping, and the customer has an AJAX keyword search inside each component. The price recalculates automatically when quantities change, and the stock of each component is managed just as if it were sold separately.
Which kinds of store get the most out of a made-to-measure kit
Technology or components store
Someone building a machine needs to see all the necessary parts. With required components you stop people from buying the motherboard and forgetting the memory, and with total limits you control the minimum order size.
Gift and basket store
For Christmas or birthdays, the customer chooses what goes in the pack and in what quantity. You set minimums and maximums so nobody buys a pack with a single item.
Perfume, wine or expensive products
An expensive product scares off someone who doesn't know it. You can offer a composite of two miniatures to choose from several references, so the customer can try before moving on to the full size. It is a cheaper way in.
Services or packages
It also works for service packages, such as a trip with its parts, as long as each part exists as a WooCommerce product.
A composite is not the same as a closed pack
In a "bought together" pack the customer gets what you decided. Here there are required parts and optional parts, and the buyer decides within your rules. If what you want is a fixed set with no choice, this plugin is more than you need.
It needs products already created in WooCommerce
Components are products from your catalog, not free fields. If you want the customer to type a text or upload a file to customize something, this plugin is not that tool. Nor is it a visual configurator: the customer chooses from lists and doesn't see an image being assembled. And since the discount is set as a percentage, review your margins before applying it to kits with many parts.
Questions before building your first kit
Can the customer choose variations?
Yes, they can choose among the product variations of each component.
Is the stock of each part deducted?
Yes, components are inventory-managed just like standalone sales.
Can I require a minimum purchase?
Yes, you can set minimum and maximum quantities per component and for the composite total.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. It is set up from the product editor, with drag and drop for the order and prices that calculate themselves.
Can I recommend an option?
Yes, by marking it as the default product: it will appear first in the selector.
