Charging people to list on your directory
A directory works when it has listings, and having listings usually means letting people post for free. The problem arrives right afterwards: you now have traffic and content, but no way to charge for it without scaring off the people doing the posting.
This HivePress extension handles that step. It adds membership plans on top of the directory you already run, so posting, featuring or messaging depend on the plan somebody holds, without changing how the site behaves for people who are only browsing.
What you can tie to a plan
- Submitting listings: require a paid membership before anyone can post, and cap how many per tier.
- Featuring: charge for a listing to appear higher in results, the most natural recurring income a directory has.
- Category pricing: charge differently depending on where the listing goes, because a slot in the category everyone searches is not worth the same.
- Premium fields: reserve extra profile and listing fields for paid plans.
- Messaging: limit who each tier can write to.
- Offers and requests: require membership to send them, via the Requests extension.
- Content: hide specific pages, listings, profiles and fields from non-members.
The plans
Create as many as you need, free or paid, each with its own active duration and restrictions. Expiry is defined per plan, so a monthly, an annual and a trial can coexist.
How payment works
Payment runs through WooCommerce, using the gateways you already have configured. For automatic recurring charges it relies on WooCommerce Subscriptions, which is what turns a one-off payment into an actual subscription.
Where it fits
Job boards, real estate directories, classifieds and vendor marketplaces. That is to say, any site where the value comes from whoever posts, and the business is in monetising that posting rather than the visit.
Requirements
WordPress 5.0 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher. It needs HivePress, since it is an extension of it and not a standalone plugin.

No. It is an extension of the HivePress directory system and needs the base plugin.
Can I have a free plan and a paid one?
Yes, plans can be free or paid, and can be combined with different listing limits.
How are automatic renewals charged?
Through WooCommerce Subscriptions, which handles recurring billing on top of the WooCommerce gateways.
Can I charge more for some categories than others?
Yes, it supports different pricing depending on the listing category.
