About MainWP Bulk Settings Manager Extension

When changing one setting means opening twenty dashboards

You change an option in a caching plugin, a field in a theme or a general WordPress setting, and suddenly you have to repeat it by logging into every site, one by one. With a small portfolio it is annoying; with a large one it is a source of mistakes: one site always keeps the old value and nobody notices until something breaks.

MainWP Bulk Settings Manager Extension is an extension for the MainWP Dashboard that applies the same WordPress core, plugin and theme settings to the child sites you choose, from a single place.

Whoever manages other people's sites needs consistency, not just speed

An agency or a freelance maintainer is not paid for clicking buttons, but for making sure every client is configured equally well. The real problem of managing many sites is drift: over time each one ends up with slightly different settings and you no longer know which one is right. This extension lets you set a reference configuration and distribute it, so that the differences between sites are the ones you decide on and not the ones that piled up through neglect.

How the Key Maker key works and what Bulk Settings Manager does not do

The extension works together with the free MainWP Key Maker plugin. The process is this:

  • Key Maker collects the data from a site where you have already set the settings the way you want them.
  • The extension turns that data into a key that you can send to the child sites to apply the values.
  • Site selection: you do not have to apply it to all of them; you can choose only some.
  • Boilerplate tokens: if the MainWP Boilerplate extension is installed and active, you can use its tokens in the key fields.

Now, the limits, which are worth being clear about:

  • There is no undo. If you apply something wrong, you have to fix it manually on each affected site or run another key with the new values. Review carefully before sending.
  • It is not tested with every plugin and theme. It works with those that use standard WordPress forms. If a plugin stores its settings in another way, they may not be captured correctly.
  • It needs MainWP Dashboard and Key Maker. Without them it does nothing on its own.

Questions people ask when evaluating it

Does it work with any plugin or theme?

With those that use standard WordPress forms to save settings. It has not been tested with all of them, so use Key Maker to verify that the data you need is captured correctly before distributing it.

Can I apply it to only some sites?

Yes. You choose which child sites receive the settings; you do not have to touch all of them at once.

Is there a way to revert a change?

There is no automatic undo. The way out is to fix it manually or send a new key with the previous values. That is why it is a good idea to test with a single site first.

Can it be combined with Boilerplate?

Yes, as long as the Boilerplate extension is installed and active, so you can use its tokens in the key fields.

Test the key on one site before spreading it across the whole portfolio

Since there is no undo, the order of work matters. Set the settings on a reference site, generate the key with Key Maker, apply it first to a single child site and check that the plugin or theme behaves as you expect. Only then extend it to more sites. If a plugin does not capture its values properly in Key Maker, it is better to find out in that test than after rolling it out to twenty clients.

Also remember that this extension is an add-on for the MainWP Dashboard: it makes sense if you already manage your sites from there.
