About Memberpress Importer
Migrating a membership usually means a spreadsheet with hundreds of rows, members who must not lose their access and the worry that someone will end up not paying or not getting in. Doing it by hand is slow and full of small mistakes.
Anyone migrating a membership cannot afford to start from zero
Whoever runs a paid community already has the hardest part: people who trust it enough to renew every month or every year. What that business tends to handle badly is switching tools: each member has a join date, a plan and a payment history that matter, and losing them costs more in cancellations and complaint emails than the new tool costs. Memberpress Importer is built for that moment: bringing the data you already have into MemberPress without typing it in one by one.
What data comes in with Memberpress Importer
The plugin imports in bulk from other membership systems or from spreadsheet files. You can bring in:
- Users
- Products: imported memberships are created as MemberPress products.
- Subscriptions
- Transactions
- Coupons
- Rules
It also supports one-time memberships with an expiration date.
What you need beforehand
It is an add-on for MemberPress, so it does not work on its own: you need MemberPress installed. Nor is it an automatic converter: the data must arrive in a tidy file, and if your previous system exports it messily, you will have to clean it up first. Also check that the source plugin lets you export subscriptions and transactions, because the importer cannot bring in what does not come out of the old system.

Is it useful if I am only changing domain?
Yes. It is meant for moving a site to a new domain, as well as for migrating from another system.
Can I add a membership area to a site that already exists?
Yes, that is also one of its uses: adding a membership portion to an existing site.
Does it import recurring payments and charge members again?
It imports subscriptions and transactions as data. How billing resumes depends on your payment gateway, so check that point with a test import before notifying your members.
Does it replace MemberPress?
No. It is only the bridge for bringing data in; access, payments and rules are handled by MemberPress.
Run a test import with ten members before the real one
When paying members are involved, a mistake shows up in your inbox. Start with a small file in a test environment: check that the users appear, that the assigned plan is correct and that the rules protect what they should. Only then run the full file. Back up the database first, because a faulty import of hundreds of users is easier to undo by restoring than by fixing row by row.
