Measuring your site shouldn't slow it down or leave visits out
You install Google Analytics to find out how many people arrive and run into two annoyances: the script comes from an external server that adds weight to every page, and some visitors have it blocked without you knowing. Those visitors don't show up in your reports. Your numbers end up below reality and you still make decisions with them.
MonsterInsights Performance Addon is a MonsterInsights add-on that targets exactly those two points: it serves the tracking script from your own domain and lets you control how many visits are sent to Analytics, without writing code.
What changes with gtag.js on your domain and custom sampling
- Host gtag.js locally: the Google Analytics script loads from your domain instead of someone else's. This points to faster-loading pages, better Web Vitals scores and fewer blocks from ad blockers, which improves tracking accuracy.
- Always up-to-date copy: the add-on takes care of fetching the latest version of the script and placing it on your site, so you don't have to replace the file by hand or stay stuck with an old copy.
- Sample rates: you can adjust the overall sample rate and also the site speed sample rate.
Sampling is worth understanding: lowering it means sending fewer visits to Analytics. It's a useful choice when the volume is so high that you want to limit what reaches the property, but it's not a trick to improve your data. Less data sent means less data to analyze.

The site that is already tight on speed
If every external request counts (a store, a lead-capture page, a publication with many resources), moving the tracking script to your domain is one more piece of the puzzle. Don't expect miracles: it's one script among many, and if the problem is heavy images or slow hosting, this won't fix it.
The high-traffic site
When you get a high volume of visits, the sampling control lets you decide how many are sent to your Analytics properties, instead of sending everything by default. This is the profile that option is made for.
The one that suspects Analytics is undercounting
If a share of your audience uses ad blockers, serving the script from your domain helps those visits get recorded more reliably. It helps, it doesn't guarantee: not every block depends on where the file is hosted.

Does it work with Google Analytics 4?
Yes, the add-on is compatible with Google Analytics 4.
Can I use it without knowing how to code?
Yes. Both local hosting of the script and the sample rates are set up without touching code.
Will it improve my speed scores?
It can improve loading and Web Vitals by serving the script from your domain, but the effect depends on the rest of your site. Check it by measuring before and after on your own site.
Do I have to check the script every now and then?
No. The add-on takes care of bringing the latest version of the Google Analytics script to your site.
It works as a MonsterInsights add-on, not on its own
This addon doesn't replace the main plugin: it adds settings on top of the tracking that MonsterInsights already handles, so you need MonsterInsights active. It also doesn't create new reports or analyze data: it only changes how what it measures is loaded and sent. The sampling control is designed for Universal Analytics properties, so if you only work with GA4 don't assume you'll get the same use out of it.
