About Newsletter Archive Addon

Your newsletters get sent, read once and vanish from sight

Anyone who sends a newsletter consistently builds up, month after month, content that only lives in inboxes. Newsletter Archive Addon is an add-on for the Newsletter plugin that solves exactly that: it publishes your sending history on a page of your WordPress site.

One shortcode to list and open every send

Everything revolves around the shortcode [newsletter_archive /], which you place on a regular page. The first view shows the list of sent newsletters, with the subject and the sending date. Clicking one displays it with an H2 title containing the subject and, below it, a frame with the real text of the newsletter.

The frame is necessary because each newsletter is a complete HTML page and cannot be embedded directly: your blog's styles would spoil its appearance. That's why it is shown inside an isolated box.

By default only newsletters that have been fully sent (not those still sending), that are not private and that were created as regular newsletters are listed.

Attributes to decide what is shown and how

  • max: maximum number of newsletters in the list.
  • list: shows only those sent to a specific list, using its number.
  • type: chooses the type of newsletter to show, for example those generated by the Automated Addon.
  • show_date: with “true” it shows the date; if not set, the general configuration applies.
  • separator: symbol or text that separates the date from the title.
  • title: title of the list, in H2 format.
  • target: with “_self” or “_blank” it opens the newsletter as a full page instead of inside the frame, and it overrides the add-on's global option.

You can also put an introductory text above the list, writing it between the opening and closing of the shortcode. That text is hidden when the reader opens a specific newsletter.

If a newsletter was sent with combined list filters (all, at least one, exclusions), it will appear in the archive for a list when that list is among the matching ones, regardless of the type of matching or the exclusions.

Decide if it suits you: segments, automated sends and the alternative view

It is an add-on: it needs the Newsletter plugin installed and doesn't work on its own. And it doesn't change how anything is written or sent; it only displays what you already sent.

If your automatic sends come from the Automated Addon, note that they don't appear in the general archive: you have to indicate the type with the corresponding channel, in the form [newsletter_archive type="automated_X"], where X is the channel number shown on the main Automated page.

Can I show only the newsletters of one list?

Yes, with the list attribute and the list number. Useful if you have different audiences and don't want to mix their sends.

Does it look right with any theme or page builder?

Not always. Some page builder blocks or themes don't work well with the embedded view. In that case, use the alternative mode with the target attribute to open the newsletter on a separate page. Test it on your page before publishing.

Do private newsletters or ones still sending appear?

No. Only those fully sent, not private and created as regular newsletters are listed.

Can I add an introductory text?

Yes, by writing it inside the shortcode with an opening and closing tag. It disappears when a newsletter is opened.
