A directory is worth the data nobody else has organised

Building a directory by hand is work hardly anybody finishes. Looking up a city's businesses, copying addresses and phone numbers, creating each listing, repeating it for the next town. By the fourth day the project gets abandoned with thirty listings done and two hundred to go.

Niche Creator exists to skip that part: it collects business data from Google Maps for a given keyword and location, and generates the listings and category pages with their content.

That turns weeks into an afternoon, and the other half is worth saying just as plainly: publishing a thousand similar pages does not rank on its own. What ranks a directory is covering very specific searches better than anyone ("physiotherapist in this neighbourhood"), and that asks for reviewing, completing and keeping what adds something. The tool gives you the skeleton; the judgement is yours.

What it does

• Collects businesses from Google Maps given a keyword and an area.
• Generates each business listing with its data organised.
• Creates category pages and per-town variants, which is where the long tail traffic comes from.
• Writes the content in whichever language you need.

When it pays

If content projects are your living. A well-made local directory is one of the few assets still bringing visits years later, because it answers searches that do not change.

If you are going to monetise the directory. Advertising, featured listings or contact with the businesses: the sooner the skeleton is up, the sooner that conversation starts.

Two honest warnings before buying. One: check the terms of use for the data you collect and handle real businesses' information carefully, particularly where people's contact details are involved. Two: quality rules; a directory of empty listings ages badly and ends up weighing more than it contributes.

For the technical ranking side, structured data is what makes these listings look good in search: that is covered by the Schema PRO licence. And if the site is going to have very many pages, internal linking becomes critical: that is where the Enlazatom licence comes in.

About licensing and the GPL

The code is distributed under the GPL licence and its use is free. Updates, support and activation against the developer's servers are separate services contracted with them. They are not the same thing, and buying one is not buying the other.
