About Ninja Forms Stripe
Take payments from a form without building a whole store
Setting up WooCommerce just to sell a consultation, a membership fee or an event ticket is overkill: a catalog, a cart, checkout pages to maintain. Ninja Forms Stripe starts from a different idea: payment is one more action on the form you already have, with no intermediate payment page.
A step-by-step case: registering for a workshop with an early-bird price
Imagine you run a workshop and want to register attendees and charge them in the same step. Here is how it goes with the plugin:
- You connect your account. You enter your Stripe API keys in the Ninja Forms settings. Card data is processed by Stripe and never passes through your server.
- You build the form. You add name, email, address or your own questions, plus the payment action. All in the drag-and-drop builder, with no shortcodes or code.
- You set the amount. You can fix a price, calculate the total with calculation fields based on what the attendee picks (workshop plus materials, for example), take the value from a specific field, or let the person type their own amount.
- You apply discounts. Discount codes work for early-bird or group rates.
- You test before publishing. With Stripe test keys and its test cards you check that the calculation and the emails work. Then you switch to the live keys.
- You confirm the purchase. The attendee gets the Stripe receipt if you pass their email, and you can send your own emails with merge tags such as the charge ID, the last four digits or the card type.
If a payment fails (expired card, insufficient funds or a decline), the form shows an error and the person retries without losing the rest of their data.
Subscriptions: the plan is created in Stripe, not in the form
For monthly fees, membership dues or retainers, you first create the plan in your Stripe dashboard and then paste its ID into the payment action. You can add a trial period. If you offer several tiers, a select field lets each option point to a different plan. Stripe handles renewals in the background; to view, modify, pause or cancel a subscription you have to go into the Stripe dashboard, not WordPress.
Which payment methods your customer will see
The plugin supports the methods you have enabled in your Stripe account: cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH transfers, SEPA, iDEAL, Sofort and others. Only the ones you enable appear, and you can choose between a card-only mode or an all-methods mode. It also supports strong customer authentication and 3D Secure for card payments in the EU.
For live payments, your site needs an SSL certificate and TLS 1.2, which most modern hosts already include.
Frequently asked questions about Ninja Forms Stripe
Does it work without Ninja Forms?
No. It is a Ninja Forms extension: payment is added as an action to a form built with it.
Can I offer one-time or recurring payment on the same form?
Yes. It supports both types from the same form, and with a select field the customer chooses the plan.
Does it work for donations?
Yes: you can let each donor type their own amount, and offer recurring gifts with a Stripe plan.
Do I have to handle PCI compliance myself?
Card data is handled by Stripe's infrastructure and never touches your server, but check your obligations with your advisor.
When Ninja Forms Stripe falls short
There is no cart, catalog or inventory management here: it is for charging an amount per form submission. If you sell dozens of products with stock, shipping and orders to manage, you need a real store. For services, fees, donations and registrations, a form with payment is usually enough.
