About OceanWP Hooks Extension

Change an area of the theme without opening a child theme

You want a notice above the post title, a banner before the add to cart button or a block only logged in customers can see. The usual route is to create a child theme, find the right hook and paste code into functions.php, with the risk of breaking the site over a forgotten semicolon. OceanWP Hooks Extension lets you place that content in the theme's areas from the panel itself.

What changes is the nature of the work: a snippet hidden in a file becomes an item you can edit without touching files. That matters most to anyone who maintains many sites or inherits a website without knowing what lives in its functions.php.

Every hook in OceanWP Hooks Extension is a My Library item

How it works is simple: in Theme Panel > My Library you create a new item, open the Hooks tab inside the OceanWP settings and activate it as a hook. Then you choose the location and the content appears there.

  • Several pieces of content in the same place: you can assign more than one to the same location and order them by priority (priority 0 is allowed).
  • Design with your page builder: since the hook is a library item, you can build it with your builder instead of writing HTML by hand.
  • Shortcodes and PHP: you can insert a shortcode or PHP code, which has its own editor.
  • Custom locations: the location field accepts your own hooks, handy if your development already adds new areas.
  • Show Hooks button: from the admin bar you can see every hook point on the site before deciding where to put each thing.

Three situations where OceanWP Hooks Extension fits

WooCommerce store

There are locations before and after the image, title, price and rating, description, categories and add to cart button in listings, plus hooks for the single product page. It works for a shipping message, a note under the price or a notice in a specific category. You can limit where it appears by product category, tag or individual product.

Blog or magazine

In the listing you can act before and after the title, meta, content and read more link. On the single post, around the title, meta, content, author bio, previous and next links and related posts. There are also locations before and after the page entry. It is the natural place for a subscribe call to action or a sponsored content notice.

Site with areas depending on the user

Each hook can be shown only to logged in or logged out users, and also by role. That way an anonymous visitor sees an invitation to register and a signed in user sees something else in the same spot. Combine it with the page, post or taxonomy condition so you don't fill the whole site.

Common questions before installing

Do I need a child theme? No, that is the reason the extension exists.

Can I show a block only in one category? Yes. You can condition it to a specific page, post or taxonomy and, in WooCommerce, to product category, tag or individual product.

Can I design the content with my page builder? Yes, because the hook is created as a library item and edited with your builder.

How do I know where each hook will land? With the Show Hooks button in the admin bar you see all locations on the real site.

It only works with OceanWP, and PHP calls for care

It is an extension for the OceanWP theme: the locations are that theme's, so don't use it expecting to place content in another one. It is not a page builder and doesn't create designs on its own; the look depends on your page builder. And the PHP editor runs whatever you paste: a mistake shows on the site, so test first in a staging environment.
