About PAID MEMBERSHIPS PRO EXTRA EXPIRATION WARNING EMAILS

Members who didn't know it expired don't renew

In a membership with an expiry date, many cancellations aren't decisions: they're oversights. The member pays, forgets, and one day loses access without realizing. This add-on targets exactly that kind of cancellation.

Notices at 90, 60 and 30 days from the start

Paid Memberships Pro sends a single expiration notice by default, 7 days before. PAID MEMBERSHIPS PRO EXTRA EXPIRATION WARNING EMAILS adds more notices throughout the life of the membership. Once activated, it starts sending extra emails at 90, 60 and 30 days before expiry, with no settings or prior configuration.

The idea is to give members room: a busy member has more time to decide whether to renew, instead of finding out when there's no time left.

Your own intervals and texts, but with code

If 90, 60 and 30 days don't suit your business, the change is made with a code filter (pmproeewe_email_frequency_and_templates), not from a settings screen. Two important details:

  • Your configuration completely replaces the default one: if you want to keep any of those intervals, you have to include them.
  • By default, all extra notices use the Membership Expiring template. For different messages at each interval (for example 60, 30 and 10 days), you define your own templates in the filter and then edit their content in Memberships > Settings > Email Templates.

The code goes in your own plugin or in a snippets plugin such as Code Snippets. If you've never touched PHP, have someone on hand who can.

The first sends can be a surprise

When first activated, the add-on catches up with members who are already between intervals. With notices at 30, 60 and 90 days, anyone expiring in under 30 days gets the 30-day notice; anyone expiring between 31 and 60, the 60-day one; and anyone expiring between 61 and 90, the 90-day one. It's normal, but worth knowing if you have many active members.

Three aids help you check what is sent: an email logging plugin such as Email Log, a debug mode with a log file or sending to an email address, and a URL test with a simulated date that sends no real emails (it requires an administrator session and WP_DEBUG enabled).

It depends on Paid Memberships Pro and isn't a campaign system

Let's be clear about what it solves and what it doesn't:

  • Solves: additional expiration notices with configurable intervals and templates.
  • Solves: a blind copy (BCC) to the administrator via a filter.
  • Doesn't solve: the Paid Memberships Pro plugin must be installed and active; it doesn't work on its own.
  • Doesn't solve: changing intervals or templates without code.
  • Doesn't solve: marketing sequences, segmentation or open-rate statistics; you need another tool for that.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to configure anything for it to work?

No. Once activated it sends notices at 90, 60 and 30 days. You only need code if you want other intervals.

Does it replace the 7-day notice?

No, the standard Paid Memberships Pro notice remains the 7-day one; this adds the others.

Can I send different text in each notice?

Yes: you define your own templates in the filter and edit their content in the email template settings.

How do I test it without bothering my members?

With the test URL and a simulated date, which writes the result to the debug log without sending real emails.
