About Pitch – A Theme for Freelancers and Agencies

Your portfolio shows the result, and the project is won on the process

You finish a brand, upload six polished images and move on to the next project. Whoever reaches your site sees good work and leaves without knowing what interests them most: what the problem was, what got discarded along the way and what changed afterwards.

An image proves you can execute; the important project is won by showing how you think. Pitch, the Select-Themes theme for freelancers and agencies, separates those two things: next to more than 30 portfolio templates it has four case study layouts.

The difference changes how the site is organized. The portfolio answers what you can do and takes many pieces. The case study answers how you would solve the reader's problem, and it calls for few projects, chosen with intent and told in words.

How Pitch is laid out

  • 12 home page designs, among them agency, corporate, portfolio, shop and landing page.
  • 4 case study layouts and more than 30 portfolio templates.
  • Project pages with the information to one side, floating, centered, with a masonry gallery or with a full-screen slider.
  • More than 80 shortcodes, such as pricing table, team, testimonials and counters.
  • Customizable headers, mega menu, side menu and full-screen menu.
  • WPBakery Page Builder and LayerSlider, with WooCommerce, Contact Form 7 and WPML integration.

Turning a project into a case study

One possible path, which each studio can adjust to its way of telling things:

  1. Choose few projects with a clear problem and open each one with the starting situation, ahead of the first image.
  2. Tell which options you discarded and why.
  3. Fill in the date, category and additional titles on the project page.
  4. Turn on related projects and pagination within the same category, so readers continue through similar work.

Proposals, contracts and invoices go another way

Pitch covers the public side of the business. Among its features there is no proposal sending, contract signing, invoicing or client area, and the pricing table is a design element.

Two dependencies are worth keeping in mind. The Select Core plugin is essential, because it provides the Portfolio, Testimonials, Select Slider and Select Carousel content types: without it, those elements stop working. In addition, WPBakery's frontend editor comes disabled, and turning it on means touching the theme's extend-vc.php file.

Installing Pitch and importing a demo

You need the required plugins the theme asks for on activation, among them Select Core. The System Info panel flags in red the server settings that fall short, and for the import it is advisable to raise the maximum execution time from 30 to 120 seconds.

  1. Upload the theme, activate it and install the required plugins.
  2. Install WooCommerce or Contact Form 7 now if you will use them, because they must be in place before importing.
  3. In the Pitch panel, choose a demo and the import type: all, content, widgets or options.
  4. Turn on attachment import if you want the sample files.
  5. Import the LayerSlider slider separately if you want it as in the demo.

Artesia, Agencium and Lavr as other approaches

Artesia has pages in personal and agency versions, plus priced services that can link to WooCommerce. Agencium targets creative agencies and studios, with a portfolio in three layouts and case study sections.

Lavr offers studio, showcase and freelance home pages, with galleries, a blog and a WooCommerce-compatible store.

Pitch for people who work to commission

Does it work for someone working alone?

Yes. It includes the "About me" page and simple portfolio home pages, as well as those built for agencies.

How many case studies does it include?

Four case study layouts, next to more than 30 portfolio templates.

Which builder does it use?

WPBakery Page Builder, with the theme's own elements.

Can I sell from the same site?

Yes, with WooCommerce. It has a shop home page and customizable shop pages.

Can it run in several languages?

It has WPML integration and is translation ready.

What happens if I deactivate Select Core?

The elements that depend on its content types stop working, such as the portfolio and testimonials.
