Advertising on Pinterest without a properly set up tag means paying for clicks without knowing which ones end in a sale. Pasting the code by hand into the theme works for page visits, but falls short as soon as you want to measure an add to cart, a form or a scroll.
Pinterest runs on what people save today and buy later
Anyone selling on Pinterest has a timing problem: the user saves a pin, comes back days later and buys from another device. If you only see the last visit, you attribute badly and cut campaigns that were actually working. That is why it matters to send events through two channels at once, and that is the core of this addon: the Pinterest tag on every page and the Pinterest API, with deduplication between the two so the same event is not counted twice.
PixelYourSite Pinterest Addon: tag, API and your own events
The API integration is switched on from the plugin, with no coding. You can also send all events server-side.
Besides the automatic events, you can create your own from the panel:
- Page visits, visit counts and content types (post types).
- Clicks on links or any element, and mouse-over.
- Scroll, copied text and form fields.
- Play and speed of embedded videos.
- Add to cart and purchase in WooCommerce.
- One trigger per form plugin, including Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms and WPForms.
You can set conditions by URL, landing page, traffic source, device, user role and products in the order. This is useful, for example, to measure only the purchases that come from mobile.
Automatic events that turn on with a switch
If you would rather not configure anything in detail, some events switch on and fire on every page: clicks, embedded YouTube or Vimeo videos, forms, searches, downloads, user registrations, AdSense and comments. The more you enable, the more data you get to build audiences, but also the more noise: start with the ones that answer a specific campaign decision.
Store with WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads
In stores, the addon adds the e-commerce events on its own: Checkout, InitiateCheckout, AddToCart, RemoveFromCart, ViewCategory and PageVisit. Each WooCommerce event can carry its own fine-tuned conversion value. There are also advanced marketing events to target your best customers: FrequentShopper, VIPClient and BigWhale. To verify the tag fires correctly, you can use the Chrome extension Pinterest Tag Helper.
Without PixelYourSite installed first, it will not start
It is an add-on, not a standalone plugin. What it solves and what is left to you:
- Solved: Pinterest tag, server-side API, deduplication, automatic and custom events, WooCommerce and EDD events.
- Yours: installing PixelYourSite first, in its free or Pro version.
- Yours: having the Pinterest account and creating the campaigns and audiences inside Pinterest.
- Yours: the cookie notice and your visitors' consent, which this addon does not manage.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with the free version of PixelYourSite?
Yes, with the free or the Pro version, but always with the main plugin installed and active.
Does it send events through the tag and the API at the same time?
Yes, and deduplication prevents them from being counted twice.
Do I have to code anything?
No. The API and the custom events are configured from the plugin, with no code.
How do I check that the tag works?
With Pinterest Tag Helper, a Chrome extension made for that.
