About PMPRO Gift Aid Addon
Gift Aid declarations shouldn't live in a separate spreadsheet
Collecting membership fees through WordPress while keeping Gift Aid declarations somewhere else (an email, a loose form, an Excel file) ends the same way: when you need to cross-check data, boxes are missing or nobody knows which payment backed each declaration.
A British organisation that lives on fees and donations has a problem that isn't visible from outside: the administrative work isn't in collecting the money, but in being able to show afterwards, payment by payment, who said what and when. PMPRO Gift Aid Addon solves exactly that part: the declaration is ticked at the same membership checkout.
What PMPRO Gift Aid Addon does at checkout and afterwards
It adds a checkbox to the Paid Memberships Pro checkout so the customer can opt in to Gift Aid. Gift Aid lets people who pay UK income tax make a short, simple declaration that they are UK taxpayers.
- The member sees their status: it appears on the order page and on the membership confirmation page.
- The administrator sees it in the email: the payment confirmation email shows whether the member ticked the option.
- CSV report: in Memberships > Orders you can export orders to CSV. A column called gift_aid shows yes if the box was ticked and no if it wasn't.
That is as far as it goes. The add-on collects and records the option; it doesn't prepare or submit claims, nor does it add tracking dashboards beyond that CSV. If you need to match the data with your accounting, the work happens outside, with the exported file.
It also has no visual setting to show the checkbox only on certain levels. There is a filter (pmproga_show_gift_aid_at_checkout) that lets you show or hide it by level or other conditions, but it requires writing code, so count on a developer if your case needs it.
Common questions before adding the Gift Aid checkbox
Does it work without Paid Memberships Pro?
No. It is an add-on for Paid Memberships Pro and needs that plugin installed and active. It is designed for sites where members hold one or more active levels.
Do I need it if my organisation isn't in the UK?
Almost certainly not. Gift Aid is a UK tax incentive; if you don't know what it is, this add-on probably isn't for you.
How do I get the list of people who ticked the box?
From Memberships > Orders, using the export to CSV option. Filter the gift_aid column by yes and you'll have the orders with a declaration.
Can I hide the checkbox on some levels?
Yes, through the filter mentioned above, which requires code.
After activating it, a few settings are left to review in the dashboard
The add-on isn't ready as soon as you activate it: some options need to be configured from the WordPress dashboard before you go live.
Before opening it to real members, make one test payment with the box ticked and another without it. Check that the status shows on the order page and the confirmation page, that the administrator email indicates it, and that the gift_aid column in the CSV says yes or no accordingly. If you have doubts about how the declaration should be worded or kept in your organisation, ask whoever handles your accounting: the add-on only records the customer's choice.
