About Points and Rewards For WooCommerce Pro

The points you give away today are a debt you pay tomorrow

Getting a customer to buy again doesn't happen on its own, and one-off discounts only teach people to wait for the next offer. A points program changes that logic, but it comes with a consequence at the start: every point issued is a pending promise of payment.

Points and Rewards For WooCommerce Pro includes the brakes to keep that promise from getting out of hand: point expiration, redemption limits, exclusion of sale products, points on the first order only and restriction by user role. Set those rules before launching the program, not when the accumulated balance already worries you.

Earning points for buying, reviewing, inviting or having a birthday

Customers earn points in several ways:

  • For every amount spent, with a conversion rate you define on the order value.
  • For writing a review or a comment.
  • For referrals: the person who invites earns points when the invitee buys with their link, and so does the one who signs up with it.
  • For their birthday or anniversary, with extra points if they buy that day.
  • For the first order, or for actions like social sharing within the pop-up campaigns.

To spend them, customers apply them in the cart. You can allow paying the whole order with points or just a part, assign points by category or by product and limit how much can be redeemed. Coupons can also be generated from points.

Membership tiers and campaigns in one pop-up

You can create several tiers: each one requires a number of points to join, can give discounts and an expiration date, and allows a different points conversion per currency. Customers see a message about the next tier they can reach, which is the nudge to complete one more order.

The gamified campaigns (referrals, social sharing, first-order points, birthdays and quizzes) are gathered in a customizable pop-up that shows the points earned. To measure whether all this works there is an analytics section with points earned, redeemed, expired and outstanding, activity over time and the customers with the highest balances.

Wallet, subscriptions and Klaviyo depend on other plugins

The plugin covers the core of the program, but several pieces buyers often take for granted rely on other tools or on your own judgment:

  • Already solved: points per purchase, redemption in the cart, coupons, expiration, tiers, referrals and WhatsApp, SMS and email notices about points earned and redeemed.
  • With another plugin (wallet): converting points into wallet balance requires Wallet System For WooCommerce.
  • With another plugin (subscriptions): points on renewals need WooCommerce Subscriptions or Subscriptions For WooCommerce.
  • With another platform (Klaviyo): the plugin syncs points data to profiles, but you need your own Klaviyo account and that is where you design the campaigns.
  • By hand: deciding how much a point is worth, what margin redemption leaves you and which tier deserves which discount. You work that out with your own margins.

Questions to settle before building your points program

Can customers pay the whole order with points?

Yes, you can allow purchases with points only or partially, and set limits on redemption.

Do points expire?

Yes, there is an expiration period setting, useful to keep the outstanding balance from growing unchecked.

Does it work in a marketplace?

It is compatible with Dokan and MultiVendorX. With the free version of Dokan, vendors assign points on simple products only; with the paid one, on variable products too.

Can it be translated into several languages?

It is compatible with WPML to translate the plugin's strings.
