About Product Video for WooCommerce
A still photo doesn't show how a shelf is assembled, how a garment moves, or how big a device is in your hand. Shoppers sense that, hesitate, and then either write to ask or leave. Product Video for WooCommerce puts a video on the product page itself so that doubt gets settled without leaving it.
What your customer can't ask a photo
A short video can show how a product works, how it looks in motion or whether it fits, and it's exactly what this plugin lets you place on any product page.
From product to video: building a listing with Product Video for WooCommerce
Imagine you sell a coffee machine and want to show it working. The process would be this:
- Step 1, choose the video source. You can upload the file (formats such as MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, FLV or WMV are supported) or embed it from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Facebook or Metacafe. If the video is already published on a channel, you don't need to upload it again.
- Step 2, decide where it goes. From the product edit page you can set it as the featured video, in place of the main image, or add it to the gallery next to the photos.
- Step 3, take care of the thumbnail. Each video accepts its own thumbnail. It's the first thing the customer sees, so it should say something (the machine already pouring, not a black frame).
- Step 4, choose how it plays. In a lightbox pop-up or directly on the page, with a full-screen button. Note: only featured videos without a thumbnail play on the page; if you add a thumbnail, it opens in the pop-up. And gallery videos always play in a pop-up when you use the lightbox style.
- Step 5, adjust the behavior. For uploaded videos you can turn autoplay, looping, muting and controls on or off. For embedded ones: autoplay, full screen, muting and whether related videos appear. Width (in percent) and height (in pixels) are set for the shop and for the product page.
Questions from people about to install it
Can I use the same video on several products?
Gallery videos, yes: when you add them you can assign them to several products at once. The featured video has to be added from each product's page.
Does the video show in the shop listings?
It's up to you. You can show or hide the featured video on listing pages, and if you limit it to the product page, the listing shows the usual featured image.
Does it respect the gallery I already have?
Not exactly: the plugin replaces the WooCommerce gallery. It offers two styles, one with an HTML5 lightbox and another that shows images and videos inside the featured box, with thumbnails on the top, bottom, right or left and a number of items of your choice.
If your gallery is heavily customized, be ready to tweak
Because it replaces the gallery, a theme with a carefully built gallery may need design adjustments for everything to fit again. Try it in the demo with your theme before applying it to the whole catalog.
What Product Video for WooCommerce is not
It isn't a video editor or a video host: it doesn't record, trim or optimize anything. If you upload heavy files to your own server, your hosting will feel the weight. It's a WooCommerce add-on and doesn't work without it.
