About SearchWP Meta Box Integration

Your data sits in fields the default WordPress search ignores

You build a directory, a property catalog or a library of records with Meta Box, fill in dozens of fields per entry, and when a visitor searches, WordPress only looks at the title and main text. The data users care about most (the area, the property type, the reference number) stays out of the results. SearchWP Meta Box Integration exists to close that gap.

People who use Meta Box tend to be technical and structure their information carefully. The irony is that the better you organize data into fields, the more valuable content stays invisible to the native search.

What SearchWP Meta Box Integration indexes

It is a SearchWP extension: it adds Meta Box data to the search engine so it can be searched and ranked by relevance.

  • Meta Box custom fields: they appear as content sources you can add to a search engine.
  • Meta Box custom tables: if you store data in your own tables instead of the metadata table, it can also be indexed and searched.
  • Per-field weight: with the SearchWP algorithm you can give some fields more weight than others, so a match in the important field rises in the list.
  • Index diagnostics: lets you check that content and fields have been indexed correctly.

It is configured from the dashboard, with no code.

How each type of project benefits

If you run a real estate portal

You can create a dedicated search engine for properties that indexes only the property-related fields. A search by neighborhood, type or features then finds listings that never showed up before, and the rest of the site does not pollute those results.

If you build sites for clients with many content types

You can define several engines, each with its own fields. The blog search, the catalog search and the documentation search can behave differently without custom queries.

If you store data in Meta Box custom tables

The extension brings that data into the index so it can be searched like everything else.

It needs SearchWP and fields already built with Meta Box

This plugin does not work on its own: it is an extension that requires SearchWP installed and Meta Box as your field manager. It does not create fields or search forms by itself; it only connects what you already have to the engine. SearchWP is designed for self-hosted WordPress installs, not WordPress.com. And by default it does not index data such as the author: any extra content has to be indicated to the engine.

A practical note: fewer fields, better results

The temptation is to index everything. That is usually a mistake: if you add internal fields, codes or technical data, results will appear that visitors did not expect. Choose the fields users would actually type into the search box and keep the high weight for the most descriptive ones. Then check the index with the diagnostics and try several real searches.
