About Spin Wheel For WooCommerce

Everybody knows the wheel is rigged, and it works anyway

It is the honest part of this product and worth saying ahead of anything else, because it explains why it converts.

Nobody spinning a discount wheel genuinely believes they got lucky. They know perfectly well the segments were arranged by you, that ten per cent comes up far more often than free shipping, and that the big prize probably never lands. They know, and they play anyway.

The reason is that the wheel does not sell chance: it turns an exchange into a game. A form saying "leave us your email and we will give you a coupon" is a transaction, and people work out whether it is worth it. The same offer with a wheel spinning for two seconds feels like taking part, and it gets filled in far more.

Spin Wheel for WooCommerce adds that wheel to your shop, with control over text, colours and segments.

What it brings

  • A wheel of fortune configurable in text and colours to match your theme.
  • Segments with different prizes, as many as you like.
  • Exit intent display, when the visitor is about to leave.
  • Aimed at capture and retention, not at running a draw.

Where you place it decides whether it helps or annoys

Exit intent is the good one, by a distance. The visitor was leaving anyway, so you interrupt nothing and the worst that can happen is they leave regardless. It is the only placement with no cost.

On arrival is the bad one. It covers the content before the person knows whether your shop interests them, and on mobile there is a technical reason too: Google expressly flags intrusive interstitials as bad practice and it affects rankings. The exceptions are legally required notices, such as cookies.

After an action works too. After adding to cart, or on reaching the end of a long product page, the person has already shown interest.

How the segments get configured so the sums work

No segment should be "you did not win". Losing a rigged game annoys people, and on top of that you have spent the visitor's attention for nothing. Every segment gives something, however small.

The worst prize still has to be profitable. That is the one that will land almost every time, so your margin has to carry it on every sale. The arithmetic gets done with the worst, not the best.

A short expiry on the coupon. Twenty-four or forty-eight hours. Urgency is half the mechanism, and without it the coupon gets saved and forgotten.

One per person. Without control, somebody spins fifteen times with different emails until the good one lands.

A brief but real legal warning

Even though it is not a draw, it is still a promotion with a prize, and there are two things worth having in place.

The first, that the email you collect needs informed consent: spinning the wheel is not the same as agreeing to receive your newsletter, and you have to say what you will use the data for with a box that does not arrive ticked.

The second, that advertising a prize that is unreachable in practice because its segment has zero probability can be treated as misleading advertising. The big prize being improbable is normal; being impossible is not.

Requirements

It needs WordPress and WooCommerce, because the prizes are shop coupons.

Alternatives in the catalogue

From the same mechanism, WooCommerce Lucky Wheel covers the same case, and Optin Spin leans more towards email capture.

If what you want is the popup without the game, Green Popups builds popups with display rules, exit intent included.

If the prize you give is a discount and you want proper control over it (conditions, minimums, exclusions, expiry), the piece is Advanced Coupons, which does what WooCommerce coupons do not.

And if you genuinely want to run a draw, this is not it: RafflePress Pro builds giveaways with extra entries for sharing, and Lottery for WooCommerce builds raffles with tickets, which is territory with its own regulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work even though the rigging is obvious?
Yes. It does not sell chance: it turns an exchange into a game, and that is what raises conversion.

Where should it appear?
On exit intent. On arrival it annoys and on mobile it can affect rankings.

Should there be a losing segment?
No. Losing a rigged game annoys people and wastes attention you already had.

Which prize do I do the sums with?
The worst one, which is what will land almost every time. Your margin has to carry it.

Can I include a nearly impossible prize?
Improbable yes, impossible no. Advertising an unreachable prize can be misleading advertising.

Does it work as a draw?
No. For draws there are specific plugins, and the regulation there is different.
