About Tickera Check-in App Translation
The volunteer who doesn't understand "Already Used" at the door
An event opens or jams up at the entrance. The person scanning is usually staff hired for that night, volunteers or people from the venue itself, and they read the same screens hundreds of times in a row.
Tickera Check-in App Translation solves exactly that: it changes the language of the scanning app (Checkinera, on iOS and Android) without touching code. It is a Tickera add-on, so it only makes sense if you already sell tickets with that plugin and scan with its app.
Tickera Check-in App Translation: every text in the app, editable in WordPress
One screen in the WordPress admin lists every translatable text in the app: English on the left, your translation on the right. You can rewrite:
- Buttons, labels and errors: Scan, Check In, Already Used, Invalid Ticket, Connection Lost.
- Login screens: the site URL, username, password and the wrong-credentials message.
- Event and ticket lists: ticket types, sold, available and checked in.
- Scan-result messages: the big notices staff see non-stop throughout the night.
Translations are stored in your own WordPress and the app downloads them when staff sign in. Changing a word doesn't mean publishing a new version of the app or waiting for store review. Once downloaded, the app saves them on the device and keeps using them even if the connection drops. If the app adds new texts later, they appear on the screen in English until you translate them.
One language per site, and only for staff
- It doesn't come with ready-made translations: you write the text yourself or your translator sends it to you.
- All staff who log into the same WordPress see the same translations. If each gate needs a different language, you will need a small multisite or per-user settings with another plugin.
- It doesn't translate what the customer sees, such as emails or ticket PDFs. It only affects the staff app.
Common questions from people about to translate the app
Which languages does it support?
Any. Since everything works in UTF-8, you can write in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Greek or Turkish, among others. The only thing missing is pre-translated packs.
Do I have to update the app from the store?
No. The texts live in your WordPress and the app requests them at login. If you fix a translation in the afternoon, staff who sign in that night will already see the change.
Can I have a different language per person or per gate?
Not with this add-on alone. All users on the same site share one translation. Most teams pick a single language for the whole event.
Does it also translate customer tickets and emails?
No. This piece is only for the scanning app. Emails and PDFs are translated another way.
Paste your translator's CSV and ask the team to log out
The job is short: you open the translation screen, fill in the boxes (or paste the contents of a CSV your translator sent you) and save. The strings are stored as metadata in your WordPress, with nothing to deploy in the app.
After that, staff need to log out and back in so the app downloads the new texts, so let them know before the event. Test it with a real phone: check that long texts fit in the buttons and that the valid-entry and already-used messages can be told apart at a glance. Better to find that out at home than at the door with a queue already formed.
