About WooCommerce Account Funds
A store with repeat customers, not one-time buyers
Getting someone to buy a second time costs far more than selling to them the first time. Account Funds targets exactly that: the customer tops up a balance in their account and that money can only be spent in your store. If you sell consumables, spare parts, training in packs or anything people buy again and again, it makes sense. If your catalog is one-time purchases (a piece of furniture, a single course), few customers will want to leave money sitting in your store.
It is not a wallet for everyone either: it is a WooCommerce extension, so it needs a store running WooCommerce.
Top-ups with limits you set and an incentive to push them
The customer tops up their balance with an amount between the minimum and maximum you decide. To make it worthwhile, you can offer discounts to those who top up, so loading funds works out better than paying order by order.
There is a delicate decision here: a minimum top-up above your best-selling product encourages bigger spending, but a minimum that is too high puts off people who only wanted to try it. Start with an affordable amount and adjust it based on the reports.
Pay with balance, mixed payments or card: you decide how much freedom to give
Funds can be used to pay new orders. If the balance does not cover the total, you can allow mixed payment methods: balance plus another method for the difference. You can also keep it simple and let the customer choose one or the other.
- Refunds: you can return the amount to the original payment method or to the account balance, and the latter lets the customer reuse it immediately. Deposited funds can also be refunded.
- Welcome balance: you can add funds to an account when the customer registers.
- Manual adjustment: as a manager, you can view and edit the funds of every registered customer.
What the WooCommerce Account Funds reports show
There are reports with search and filters to see how much is spent in your store using the balance, and others on the amount and number of deposits in a period. They help answer useful questions: do people top up but not spend, does the top-up discount pay off, is the chosen minimum slowing down deposits?
You can also see each customer's balance individually, which is handy when handling a query or an issue.
Leaving the balance only to those who should see it
If you want the option to appear only to logged-in users or to specific roles, such as wholesale customers, you need an additional member-based access restriction extension, such as Constellation by Kestrel. On its own, Account Funds does not control who sees it, so if your case is B2B or mixed, count on that add-on.
It works with WooCommerce high-performance order storage (HPOS) and is compatible with WooCommerce Subscriptions.
