About WooCommerce Moneris Payment Gateway
Take payments in Canada with Moneris, without sending customers to another site
Sending customers to an external page to pay takes away your control of the checkout right at the last step. WooCommerce Moneris Payment Gateway connects WooCommerce to your Moneris account, one of Canada's leading payment processors, and lets customers pay without leaving your site. It also supports Moneris Checkout as a hosted, more secure payment form.
Charges, captures and refunds from the order screen
Day-to-day management happens inside WooCommerce, without logging into the Moneris panel:
- Full or partial refunds from the order edit screen, with the refund via credit card action. If the transaction has not been captured or settled yet, it is voided automatically instead of refunded.
- Capture of authorized charges: if you prefer to only authorize the payment and charge it later, you can capture it from the order with the capture charge action.
- Forced charge on virtual-only orders, instead of just authorizing them.
- Detailed decline messages at checkout, instead of a generic error.
It accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay, Diner's Club and JCB.
Two currencies, two merchant accounts
You can take payments in Canadian and US dollars, but you need a Moneris merchant account for each currency. The plugin picks the right account based on the order currency. Note: it does not handle the currency switching itself; if you want to show prices in both, you may need a separate multicurrency plugin.
Another important limit: Moneris is only available to merchants in Canada. If your business is in another country, this plugin is not for you. You also need an SSL certificate, because payment happens on your own page.
Frequently asked questions about the Moneris gateway
Can I use it with subscriptions and pre-orders?
Yes, it is compatible with WooCommerce Subscriptions and WooCommerce Pre-Orders, but you must enable tokenization in your Moneris Checkout configuration.
Where are my customers' cards stored?
On Moneris servers, not in your store. That reduces your security burden. Customers see them in their account, in a unified payment methods section.
Can customers add a card without buying anything?
Yes. From My Account they can add, change or remove payment methods without going through checkout.
Can the fraud checks be adjusted?
Yes. From the WooCommerce settings you configure the address (AVS) and security code (CVV) checks and how to react to errors in each one.
Compatible with blocks and high-performance order storage
It works with the block editor's cart and checkout blocks and is compatible with high-performance order storage (HPOS). It also works with Sequential Order Numbers Pro.
Moneris Checkout credentials, first of all
What you need at hand is your Moneris account and the Moneris Checkout ID and key. They are saved on the plugin settings page. If you plan to use saved cards, subscriptions or pre-orders, first check that tokenization is enabled in your Moneris Checkout configuration. Place a test purchase in each currency you will accept to confirm the right account is used.
