For the store that hands out codes to specific customers and doesn't want to see them on a coupon portal
A basic WooCommerce coupon works until it slips out of your hands: someone forwards it, the same person uses it ten times, or it ends up applied to orders you never meant to discount. Smart Coupons is built for those who hand out discounts on purpose and need to keep control.
It suits you if:
- you run campaigns with many different codes, by occasion or by customer;
- you want to limit how many times each person can use a coupon within a period;
- you prefer to show coupons in the store instead of waiting for customers to type them in;
- you want to give away store credit.
It doesn't suit you if you are looking for an email marketing platform or a points program: here you generate, send and display coupons, nothing more. It is a WooCommerce extension, so without WooCommerce it does nothing.
WooCommerce Smart Coupons generates codes in batches and you decide where they go
With bulk generation you create a batch of coupons and choose what to do with it:
- save them to the store database;
- export them to CSV;
- email them to recipients or customers.
You can add a prefix and suffix to the codes, which helps a Christmas code stand out at a glance from a welcome one. There are also options to limit the length of the code, and the plugin checks whether a coupon with the same code already exists before creating another.
If you already keep your coupons in a spreadsheet, you can import them from a CSV file and export them the same way whenever you need to review them outside WordPress.
With Smart Coupons a coupon can't be used ten times by the same person
The most useful feature for anyone worried about abuse is the per-user usage limit: daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. The interval is calculated from midnight on the server's clock, something worth keeping in mind if your hosting runs in a different time zone from your customers.
The plugin also validates the email restriction and the coupon list on the cart and checkout pages, so a coupon meant for one address can't be applied with another.
Coupons in plain sight on product, cart and My account pages
You can show coupons on the product page (even ones generated for specific products), on the cart and on the My account page. Customers apply them from the list itself, without copying codes. Among the options:
- limit how many coupons are shown on product and cart pages;
- change the subject of the coupon emails;
- show or hide the coupon's value;
- display the expiry date on the product page;
- decide whether they appear on the cart even if the minimum amount hasn't been reached.
Be careful: a coupon displayed on a product page is visible to anyone who visits it. Personal codes are better sent by email.
Store credit from the dashboard, with Dokan and WooCommerce Brands
From the admin you choose the credit amount and send it to the customer's email, a format that works as a gift card. The plugin is compatible with Dokan and with the WooCommerce Brands plugin.

Does it work without WooCommerce?
No. It extends WooCommerce coupons, so it needs WooCommerce installed.
Can I import the coupons I already have?
Yes, from a CSV file. You can also export the ones you generate.
Can I give a customer store credit?
Yes: you choose the amount and it is sent to the customer's email from the dashboard.
Are coupons shown to everyone?
Only where you enable it: there are options to show them on product, cart and My account pages.
