About WP Fusion Downloads
The PDF link stays public even if the page is locked
You hide the sales page, put the content behind a login and sleep easy. But the PDF, image or audio file is still in the uploads folder with a direct URL: whoever has it can share it, and it no longer matters who paid. It's the typical gap for anyone selling training, guides or materials to customers managed from a CRM: access control lives in the tags, but the file doesn't look at them.
WP Fusion Downloads is a WP Fusion addon that closes that gap: the file is only delivered if the person is logged in and, if you've asked for it, has the CRM tags you define.
A switch on every file in the media library
When you add a file from the media library to a page, a protection panel appears. You turn on Protect this file and the file is moved to a protected folder inside the uploads directory. From then on:
- Basic access: by default only logged-in users can see it.
- Tag-based access: you can require one or more CRM tags to open it.
- Embedded or download: the file can be shown inside the page (image, PDF or audio) or delivered through a download link. In both cases the login and tags are checked before it is served.
- What someone without permission sees: a 404 error if they try to open the file directly. If you'd rather send them to another page (a sales page, for example), you set the redirect in the Addons tab of the WP Fusion settings.
Three situations where WP Fusion Downloads fits
You sell a course or membership and manage access with tags
You already add or remove tags according to the purchase or plan. With this addon, downloadable materials (PDFs, audio, images) obey those same tags, without creating a separate rule for each file.
You deliver exclusive material to customers or subscribers
Guides, templates or documents you don't want circulating through loose links. If the person stops having the tag, they can no longer open the file.
You want a file visible only to registered users
No tags, just the default protection: being logged in is enough. Useful for internal or community documents.
Frequently asked questions
Is it for selling digital files?
It isn't a store. It controls who can access a file, but it doesn't handle payments or orders. To sell downloads the usual choice is WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads, and this addon can take care of protecting the files according to tags.
Does it work without WP Fusion?
No: it is a WP Fusion addon and relies on its CRM connection to read the tags.
Can I require more than one tag?
Yes, you can specify one or more tags required to access the file.
What happens if someone pastes the direct link without permission?
They get a 404 error, unless you've set up a redirect to another page.
No Multisite and no guarantee on every host
To protect files, the addon modifies file permissions on the server, so it can't be guaranteed to work on every host. It remains in beta, works on many sites, and it's wise to test it with a real file before protecting the whole library. It doesn't work on WordPress Multisite either.
