About WPForms User Journey
You receive form submissions, but you don't know what the person did before filling one in. Did they arrive from an ad, search for something specific, or read three articles before writing to you? Without that context, you decide which content to improve or which campaign to repeat blindly.
A submitted form is the end of the story, not the whole story
Anyone who writes to you has already made a journey through your site, and almost nobody records it. The usual habit is to look at how many forms come in and which are the most common, and assume whatever seems to work is working. WPForms User Journey changes the question: it's no longer just how many submissions you get, but which pages each person viewed before submitting. That lets you tell apart the content that really brings people closer to contacting you from the content that only adds visits.
What WPForms User Journey shows next to each submission
The addon adds a timeline to each form entry, inside the WordPress dashboard itself. Depending on the case, it records:
- The referring URL: which site the person came from to reach your website.
- Searches: when they searched and which terms they used.
- Pages and posts visited: how long they spent on each.
- UTM parameters: the marketing campaign they responded to.
You don't need to insert tracking code or connect external tools.
What it is not
It's a WPForms addon, not a standalone plugin: it needs WPForms in its Pro version, and without published forms there is no journey to show. Nor is it a general analytics tool for your site: it only records the journey of people who end up submitting a form, not of those who leave without submitting anything. If you also want to know where those people are located, there is a WPForms geolocation addon that adds to the journey, but it is a separate addon.
Frequently asked questions before activating it
Do I need to know how to code?
No. There is no tracking code to configure. If you already know how to build a form with the WPForms drag-and-drop builder, you have what you need.
Will it slow down my site?
WPForms is developed with performance in mind. Even so, as with any addon, it's sensible to check the speed of your pages with the form active.
Is it useful if I already use another analytics tool?
It complements it: the advantage is that the journey is attached to each specific contact, instead of sitting in an aggregated visit report. To see the overall behavior of your whole audience, you still need your usual tool.
Does it work with paid campaigns?
It records the UTM parameters of the campaign the person responded to. For them to appear, your links must carry those tags.
Which decisions change when you see the journey
After reviewing several entries, patterns start to show. Perhaps a blog post appears in nearly all the journeys of people who request a quote: that is content that deserves more visibility. Or a campaign brings many forms but with short journeys and little time on the pages: a sign that it attracts the curious rather than customers. You can also see what they searched for before reaching you and write content that answers those queries.
Keep in mind that these are clues about individual cases. The more submissions you accumulate, the more reliable any conclusion will be.
Each form is reviewed from its own entries
It's a good idea to make a test submission while browsing several pages of your site, to see what the timeline looks like and to check that your campaigns' UTM tags are recorded as you expect. After that, review real submissions with one fixed question: which page appears before the contact?
