About wProject Comment Mention Pro Addon
In a project with several people, writing a comment on a task doesn't guarantee that the right person reads it. If nobody alerts them, the question goes unanswered until they happen to open that exact task, and meanwhile the work waits.
A comment with no alert is a handover that never happens
In project management, work gets stuck in handovers: the designer waits for the client's opinion, the client didn't know it was their turn to answer, and the project lead chases everyone through another channel. Task comments are the natural place for those handovers, but without alerts they end up like a mailbox nobody empties. wProject Comment Mention Pro Addon adds what's missing: mention someone with @ and they get a notification.
Comment Mention Pro on a real task: from the @ to your designer's inbox
Imagine you're reviewing a mockup and need Marta, the designer, to change a colour. Here is how it would go:
- You type @ and the first letters of the name. The plugin suggests the person right inside the comment.
- You pick the name with the tab key or by clicking it with the mouse.
- You post the comment. The name is linked to that person's profile page, so the rest of the team can see who it's addressed to.
- Marta receives the notification with a direct link to the task and the comment, so she doesn't have to hunt for it. It can reach her by email, in the front-end Notifications panel, or both.
Which alerts are sent is decided in wProject, in the Comment Mention Pro section of the menu. A few limits worth knowing: a person can only be mentioned once per comment, and if you mention yourself no alert is generated. Clients can only mention people in their own projects.
If the name isn't linked and other questions about wProject Comment Mention Pro
Can I mention a lot of people in one comment?
In theory there is no cap. If you mention hundreds of users in a single comment, the site may slow down for a moment. For normal team use it's not a problem.
Why does a name sometimes not turn into a link to the profile?
The plugin needs the user's public display name to match their first and last name. wProject already sets it up that way automatically, but if it fails for someone, they just need to go to their account page and click Update, without changing anything. That forces the correct format.
Where is it configured?
Inside the wProject menu, near the bottom, under the Pro add-ons, in the Comment Mention Pro entry.
Can I choose email only or panel only?
Yes: alerts can go by email, in the front-end Notifications panel, or both, and you decide which ones to enable.
An add-on that doesn't live without wProject
This plugin doesn't work on its own: it's an add-on for wProject and needs it installed. It doesn't turn the comments of a blog or a shop into an alert system; it works with wProject's tasks and comments. If your team manages projects with another tool, it won't give you anything. If you already use wProject and your team complains that nobody sees messages on time, it's a small adjustment with a direct effect on how answers move.
